FRIENDS OF THE SHELTER FOR TRANSGENDER PEOPLE CAMPAIGN Friends of the Shelter already funded March 2025! And committed to 937 euro in monthly donations. To fully fund Yerevan shelter in a stable way, we need another 1463 euro in recurrent donations. Your 50 euro means 200 euro for us in terms of what costs we can cover! Your donations cover rent for a three-room apartment (shelter capacity is up to 6 people at a time), utilities, household chemicals, basic food and medicine for those who are unable to afford those costs. It also includes the support of the project by a psychologist and coordinator. Center T helps transgender people in Russia and those in exile in other countries. The Russian government persecutes LGBT people by making xenophobia its state policy. Most often our shelter residents are people who had to flee Russia urgently because of state persecution or domestic violence, as well as transgender people from Armenia itself. Let’s create some stability for an emergency shelter for trans people together!

The only specialized shelter for trans people from Russia may close due to lack of funds. Transgender people fleeing from mobilization, police persecution, violence and bullying end up here. It is difficult for them to find housing, even more difficult - work, they are under severe stress and may not survive without help in a foreign country; however, the chances of survival at home are even less. Lena was drafted into the army despite her neurodiversity and a complex of serious illnesses, including autism, ADHD, and social anxiety disorder. "My medical record somehow miraculously “got lost” somewhere, and the psychiatrist, after listening to all my complaints, gave me the highest fitness group, refusing to prescribe additional examination." Lena left Russia with the help of Center T and is now in a shelter in Yerevan.

"It is very difficult to find a job here, especially if you are not a local. In the five months I have spent here, I have not managed to find a job, although I tried to respond to all possible vacancies. I was rejected for various reasons: because of my appearance, because I do not know the language, because they found a person with experience, because they found a local applicant, and so on. Accordingly, I have no opportunity to rent a place to live or buy food for myself." Over 100 people have passed through the shelter in 2.5 years. The shelter costs 2,400 euros per month, which includes rent and utilities, necessary food and medicine, help in getting out of the crisis, psychological support, and doctor visits. Of this amount, we have already collected 937 euros in regular donations and 117 one-time donations for April! We need another 1,463 euros in regular donations to fully cover the shelter's expenses for the coming months. There is no hope of receiving grant support now, and if we fail to establish a system of regular donations, such people will have to be turned away. And they will be left alone with the Russian state.
