Cover for WHO KILLED SARAH SHAW. It shows a Sarah, a teenage girl with long dark hair. She has a mysterious smile on her face. She is superimposed above a snow covered tree line and beneath the trees are two cop cars parked next blood in the snow.
1 - Int. Bar. Like the Main Street outside, this bar is basically deserted. It’s a relic to the past and has never advanced into the future. There’s a bartender and one elderly man sitting at the bar. (Ex. https://www.crescentcitytap.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/crescent-city-tap-bar.jpg, https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/0f/f7/00/6f/crescent-city-tap-bar.jpg) JESENYA: We gave TruCryme four years of premium content for their streaming service and this is what we get in return. You’ve seen the user reviews! DAVE: I’ve seen the user reviews. JESENYA (con’t): The die-hards love us! 2 - Dave walks up to the Bartender and I’m the background Jesenya sits at a high top table against an exposed brick wall. DAVE (to the bartender): Four beers, please. JESENYA (to herself out loud): Traveling to every bum fuck town across the country to cover 30-year-old cold cases, that’ll never be solved, because our audience can’t get enough trauma. 3 - Dave places the four beers on the high top table. DAVE: Other people’s trauma has kept my condo’s lights on, so I’m not complaining. DAVE (con’t): And it’s not like we can show them anything new. 4 - Dave sits at the high top as Jesenya starts to get an idea. She holds a beer in her left hand. JESENYA: That’s it. JESENYA (con’t): We’re getting cancelled because we never give the audience anything new. DAVE: Don’t. JESENYA (con’t): We just interview the victim’s family and friends, play some sad, eerie piano music in the background and call it a day. DAVE (con’t): Don’t say it. JESENYA (con’t): I’m gonna. 5 - Jesenya takes a big swig of beer. SFX: glug glug glug 6 - Close in on Jesenya’s face: determined and a bit mischievous. JESENYA: Let’s find out who killed Sarah Shaw.
1 - Harold stands over her, his arms crossed as he watches Sarah dress the deer coldly. JES: Okay, what can you tell me about Sarah’s childhood in general? 2 - Sarah cuts open the buck’s stomach from anus to chest. 3 - She gets in there and spreads the chest cavity open. 4 - She reaches deep into the deer’s neck and cuts around the windpipe. 5 - She pulls the innards out and they all come out in one mass. 6 - Harold begins walking back to the car. Sarah is made to drag the deer back by the antlers. HAROLD: I don’t know. Her childhood was like any other. HAROLD: She had a roof over her head, food in the pantry, and clothes on her back. What more does a kid need?
1 - Splash page of Dave and Josie walking. Maybe the background can be broken into three or four diagonal panels that display the theories that Josie is talking about? DAVE: You said rumors were circulating around town after Sarah died. What kind of rumors? JOSIE: Oh gosh, where do I start? There were so many. JOSIE: There were the usual ones like she had a drug problem or that her boyfriend killed her, but those got dismissed pretty quickly. JOSIE: Some said that she was hosting wild sex parties at the cabin, but I can tell you that one’s not true. I used to go to those parties and it was just normal teen stuff. Drinking and all that. JOSIE: A real crazy one was that she was pregnant with Marvin Rainey’s kid and the baby was sacrificed by a satanic cult! JOSIE: But if I’m being honest I don’t think Mr. Rainey ever had sex with anyone, not even his own wife. No kids. Dave: Wow. That’s a lot.
Follow two down-on-their-luck content creators as they dig up the sordid past of a dying, Midwest town trying to answer the questions that have plagued its residents for four decades: WHO KILLED SARAH SHAW and why has it remained a secret?
