a chart showing current emissions in the middle of various scenarios
a chart showing that every tonne of co2 makes the earth warmer
a chart showing falling fossil fuel use in Australia
The first issue is simple: it's just a big old hairy lie.
Emissions today would be massively higher if we hadn't put blood, sweat and tears over the past ~2 decades (most since 2015) into trying to kick things off.
Wind/solar in particular are causing the most obvious reductions in FF burning:

My phone is glitching out so I can't take more screenshots but when I read the whole thing, the message I take is:
- things didn't have to be bad but they're going to be
- loss of faith in large national and int'l efforts. Even a super well informed PM can't seem to do what it takes.

I know people talk a lot about purity politics but I do think we've hit a place where people don't grasp that two people acting entirely in good faith, without propaganda or bias looking at the same piece of data can come to different conclusions

I love Joan Hickson as Miss Marple. A perfect blend of the woolly unthreatening old lady and the detective with a mind like a steel trap.

Four Years After the BC Heat Dome, What Have We Learned? | The Tyee
Poverty determines who lives and dies in high temperatures.
It can be tempting to think of the 2021 heat dome as an isolated incident.
But extreme heat will continue to threaten lives until we ensure survival is not dictated by someone’s money, age or where they happen to live. Three experts write.

It is truly amazing how little of the discourse about COVID in schools includes a recognition that schools can’t run without teachers. Protecting teachers from sickness and death makes it a lot easier to keep schools open.

And like… grasping at straws to be like “but check out how he did some references wrong 30 years ago. Can he really be Prime Minister?” 😂
I’m not endorsing Carney or academic misconduct. I’m just saying, who actually gives a shit?

Because most human shelters won't take animals. Because they have minutes to get out and the pets are hiding. Because a lot more reason than I'm gonna list. Until you've been in the situation do not judge. -a shelter veterinarian

Discontinuity will echo loudly in every part of our lives—from raising and educating kids, to living in our communities, to taking care of elders, to planning our own careers and retirements.
We'll all be living with more strain—and helping others manage their own distress.

What's coming at you is first of all crazy weather and local discontinuities.
Hurricanes, heatwaves, floods, megafires, droughts—but also a lot of smaller sudden shifts that mean our previous experience of what it means to live in a place no longer matches what we see.

The most important point I'm making here is this:
We're used to thinking of climate chaos as a problem that's far away, in the future... and probably someone else's responsibility to worry about.
None of that's true anymore.
