🚨 New paper accepted at the @bjpols.bsky.social: we were in the field while Brexit dominated British politics.
Do MPs respond differently when constituents disagree with the party line?
What we find surprised us: a null!

FOUR GRAPHS ABOUT 🇩🇰'S GENERAL ELECTION
My read of the election in four graphs. First: big urban-rural divide. The two big mainstream parties, Social Democrats and Liberals, are now mainly rural/suburban, with niche parties dominating in cities. (1/4) #polisky

The standard model of liberal, representative democracy is increasingly being challenged from the bottom and the top. In a new paper @Party Politics, Gidi Rahat and I seek to explain why political parties differ in the conception of democracy they advance.

It was an immense honor to contribute to the 30th anniversary issue of Party Politics. Richard Katz and I advocate for the continued relevance of studying party organization, both to understand how politics in democracies actually works and to articulate how it should work.

Building on my General Election Prediction App, I thought it might be fun to build an app that allows you to look at UK constituencies in a bunch of cool ways. So this app doesn't turn polls into seats. It looks at seats as they are.

Quick thread 1/n
Who produces hate speech? And how does that matter for content moderation?
We show that across different countries and platforms, a relatively small share of users are responsible for a very large share of hate - overall, 5% write 83-100% of hateful content.

We usually think that social identities precede preferences
We show the reverse is also true: people update their social identities to match their immigration preferences
Focus: class identity in 🇬🇧 + Christian identity in 🇮🇹
Very happy to see our new article “Reference groups and electoral behavior” (coauthored with Rune Stubager, Christoffer Hentzer Dausgaard & Michael Lewis-Beck) published!
Using ANES, DNES and AUTNES data, we show that liking or disliking social groups shapes vote choice.
Why does mainstream accommodation of far-right and Eurosceptic parties often electorally backfire? In my 3rd dissertation paper, just published in @wepsocial.bsky.social, I argue that voters specifically punish internally divided parties for accommodation: doi.org/10.1080/0140...
