They outscored the Phillies again
US elites decided, like a school of fish, that climate concern is old, boring, "woke," square, not hip & popular any more. As usual, it was based almost entirely on internal elite dynamics. It had nothing to do with the actual public, which is more concerned than ever.
There's actually a fun story behind this: the guy who was NYC superintendent of school buildings from 1891 to 1923 was an architect who believed in holistic learning, and wanted to inspire kids to rise out of poverty by giving them a sense of the possibility of granduer through construction.
I wonder the same thing about Philly schools.
Some absolute stunners that still serve their community beautifully.
Good stuff today from @jigarshahdc.bsky.social on plug-in solar.

Oh man
We have 60 GVA transformers ready to ship to the USA with 18 month delivery times from India.

More than 40% of ships globally transport fossil fuels. Nearly all of them run on fossil fuels too.
Maine’s getting plug in solar right.
As a result, Mainers have great product options right away.

We need for more states to adopt Community Solar Programs and if your state has them please look into getting your electricity from them.
Smaller, 5 to 10MW solar power plants are so much easier to get communities to accept that it can hasten deployment rates of PV & batteries.
Huge props to Shana Kennedy and the Circadium leadership and faculty for their bravery and vision.
I was an early Circadium board member and was *so* impressed by the faculty and students.
De-funding federal arts and education programs has real impacts. It destabilizes lives. It closes valuable institutions. It takes art and awe out of our experiences.
Where we get our electrons from matters.
Love to see community solar continuing to grow and acquisition costs down, according to brand new data from Wood Mackenzie.

Unreasonably excited that the Free Library now offers mobile wallet library cards
Shoutout Free Library Philadelphia, what a cool system you are 🎉
Two recent studies have re-examined risk of birds colliding with rotor blades of wind turbines.
Research found that there was not a single collision.
"The results from Aberdeen Bay show that modern offshore wind farms can be operated with low risk to wildlife."

The Strait of Hormuz crisis is doing something a decade of subsidies and mandates struggled to achieve:
making millions of people want an EV who previously discounted them.

Pretty sure this was a @greatdismal.bsky.social Blue Ant subplot.
Glad you flexed your political mussel.

Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”
Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
I went and saw Project Hail Mary.
A guy came in with his service dog and the dog sat there the whole time just concentrating on the movie.
Afterwards I told the guy I was amazed your dog watched the movie like that.
He replied, me too especially because he hated the book.
Why is this so great?
Because it can get done *now*. Full stop.
No construction (one user compared it to putting together an Ikea bookshelf).
No permitting. No financing. No interconnection.
Just savings and clean energy.
Best: that momentum is continuing in statehouses across the country. Similar legislation passed the Colorado house just yesterday.

Better: 1.4 million Mainers now have access to plug-in solar thanks to new legislation signed by Governor Janet Mills on Monday.

FYI if you’re talking about the #Artemis II mission and you want to get the spaceflight terminology right, the mission is “crewed,” not “manned.” (NASA made the terminology change official decades ago, so this isn’t new, but a lot of folks just aren’t aware.)
