Calgary teen tours Belgium and France after being selected for Beaverbrook Vimy Prize A Calgary teen was one of 16 from across the world selected to participate in a 10-day educational program that took them to Belgium and France.

Louise Ogbinar, one of the 2025 Beaverbrook Vimy Prize recipients, was recently interviewed by CTV News about her journey in Belgium and France. She reflected on powerful moments, including visiting the grave of John McCrae and reciting In Flanders Fields.

On Day 5 of the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize, students visited the grave of John McCrae at Wimereux Communal Cemetery and explored the beach at Dunkirk, where Allied troops carried out the 1940 evacuation known as Operation Dynamo.

On day 3 the students toured the Juno Beach Centre with their guide Vivian, visited the British Normandy Memorial, saw the remains of the Mulberry Harbour in Arromanches, reflected at the German cemetery in La Cambe, and ended the day at Canada House in Bernières-sur-Mer.

On the second day of the BVP program, students explored key sites in Normandy, including Abbaye d’Ardenne, Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, the Canadian Aviators Memorial, the The Falaise Memorial – Civilians in the War, and the Polish Cemetery at Urville.

Si vous visitez le Mémorial national du Canada à Vimy, prenez un moment pour découvrir le parc du Centenaire de la Fondation Vimy, situé à deux pas. C’est un lieu paisible pour réfléchir, pique-niquer ou tout simplement admirer le paysage préservé.
