When @jonathanying.bsky.social reached out to us about his fantasy shopkeeping game, it felt a bit like looking in a mirror seeing the things the games had in common.😆 It seemed natural fit and seeing our characters in a real, physical board game has been really cool!

We explored a bunch of different animals for Mae’s design before settling on her current lizardy form. Her final look is inspired by leopard geckos!

Outside the main befriendable cast, Potionomics has 81 "generic" customers! Getting all these characters modeled and dressed was a huge task, so for a long time, we had these slightly unsettling stand-ins with Baptiste’s head pasted on top.

The Heroes Guild is made from the salvaged remains of a shipwreck from the fight against Maven's kraken. This is why the background illustrations have a vaguely nautical theme!

We named Sylvia's cauldron fire Combustopher based on a Twitter poll! The other options were Flamebae, Hotpot and Wick.

Haha thank you!! We are a bit bummed that no one ever gets to see them.

In an earlier design of the game, we concepted out some ideas for random events that could happen to Sylvia's shop, like mice infestations and broken plumbing!

Even though they’re mostly out of frame or hidden by the dialogue box, we did actually model the legs for all the characters!

Roxanne comes in a distant second with around 30 emotes. She has a broader range of animations to reflect her enemies to lovers arc.😉
