It's a really fair point to say these complex relationships are being wrapped up too quickly, too neatly, without any nuance. Issue is, they hadn't touched on these stories for over a decade. They're either too slow or too quick. It shouldn't take years to see any movement.

I liked the side quests. Far and away the best stories are nestled in the zones themselves. Eversong's spirits returning, Amani dealing with abusive familial grief, Ren'dorei and their relationship to power (and home), the gameplay is actually enjoyable. I can't see it being as bad as Shadowlands.

I think it's fine to be critical of Midnight and its most recent story beats but I can't help but start throwing side-eyes when the conversation gets a little iffy. I don't want to insult people or their opinions but some of them really are plain bad, and you can tell who they're parroting too.

I think the modified approach is my favourite, unless it's literally an Alternative Earth. I know people rely on Tolkien a lot, I found the way he did it was really fun. The names and words we're given were translations, rough approximations and their meaning etc. Could be worth exploring like that?
