Top view of a round pine cone stem surrounded by a roundish pine cone. About 2" in diameter overall. Once again we see how things shade into roundness without ever quite getting there. Which is kind of the way spring feels sometimes as winter shades into it without ever quite getting there until summer most years. Somehow both this pine cone and I have survived until April 20. I found it at the end of my driveway, a true survivor of tremendous cold and snow, but not the type to brag about it. Perhaps someday I shall have the wisdom of a pine cone. Until then, I SURVIVED ANOTHER WINTER - WOOOO HOOOOOO! ISN'T THAT AMAZING?! (NOW ACCEPTING MEDALS DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS!) (SORRY - NO AUTOGRAPHS!)

My favorite comic strip - I mean, comic circle!

Top view of a galvanized metal trash can lid. About 17 inches in diameter. "20" is stamped into the lower left quadrant - apparently because the trash can holds 20 gallons of trash. "JE" is stamped within a diamond shape in the upper right quadrant - apparently indicating the maker. This lid (as well as the can it goes with) came with my present home when I bought it 14 years ago. A nice bonus - especially since these cans now cost about $70 on Amazon. That's more than I paid for the house! Oh, wait - no, it isn't. My mistake. But perhaps not as big of a mistake as my taking more than a year to finally photograph this lid and post it here. It's really rather handsome - as trash can lids go. And yet I'd forgotten it and/or taken it for granted despite its extreme roundness. Tsk tsk! I'm sending myself to my room without dessert as punishment. (Well, with only a very small dessert, anyway.)
And yes, I think I have seen him! In fact, it's quite possible I voted for him at some point.
One just never knows who might or might not have a rubber chicken fetish. I suppose it's best to assume everyone does until proven otherwise. ππ

Only the ones that the surgeon accidentally put in my hand while I was holding the umbrella.
Ooo! So cool! Thanks for sharing. ππ
A mini Mallo Cup - just 1.5 inches in diameter and just half an ounce in weight. After having my first Reese's peanut butter cup in many years about 2 weeks ago , I decided to see if they still made these. I was shocked to discover that they do. So of course I had to get some and see if they were anything like what I remembered from decades ago. And they are! Which is to say that with every bite I think, "Gee, I could be eating a Reese's peanut butter cup instead." It's not a bad candy, but... the marshmallow cream center is (and always has been) pretty boring. It's like opening up a pretty package on Xmas morning and finding... socks. And the chocolate isn't bad, but... it contains a hint of coconut. I've never really liked coconut, but a hint of coconut is oddly enticing. It's like watching a really bad movie on a small TV screen that's 100 feet away. What would normally be unbearable becomes strangely interesting when I'm not sure it's really there at all. That said, this might well be the last Mallo Cup I have for another couple of decades. Then again, it might be interesting to try one smothered in taco sauce. Or maybe mustard. Or both! Hmmmmm . . . .
Hmmmm.... They DO say you shouldn't bring a knife to a gun fight, but I don't think they've ever said that bringing an umbrella is a bad idea. (Might want to have a rubber chicken in your back pocket - just in case!)
Yesterday's umbrella after round enhancement surgery. I'm happy to report that the patient and the surgeon are both doing well!

Thanks to a generous contribution from an anonymous donor, my umbrella was able to get the cosmetic round enhancement surgery this morning that it so desperately needed. (A reminder that there ARE still good, caring people in this world!)
Experiments have been postponed due to rain. C'est la vie!

Hmmmmm.... *Doublechecking that by counting the number of sides on the closest circle I can find.... 1... 2... 3... 4...*
Only if you happen to be in a crowded elevator with armed thugs.
Beautiful! π
When I was young it seems that the roses smelled sooo much better. But then, so did my friends....
Top view of a round umbrella with many round dots. Or is the umbrella better described as an octagon? How many sides must an apparently two-dimensional object have before it can reasonably be called round? Four? No, that's obviously a square. Three? Now we're being silly. A thousand? Oh, much less than that! Clearly there's a gray area that is open to debate. But what is it? And what of the dots? I was going to call them red, blue, and pink, but the red is perhaps more accurately called maroon, and the blue is more of a blue-green aquamarine. At least on my computer. Yours may differ. Anyway, the umbrella is about 36 inches in diameter. Or a bit less than a meter if you prefer the metric system. And if someone opens an umbrella in the forest when there's no one around and it's not raining is the act less nonsensical than when others *are* around? (Making a note to conduct a few real world experiments first thing in the morning.)
Half a dozen? Wow! Sounds like you're Living the Good Life! ππ
Oh my! I'd go out in my bathrobe too if I could get shots like that rather than ants up my legs!
OH! Poor planning on someone's part. π²
That's certainly preferable to getting hung up on a thorn! βΊοΈ
Someone once said, "Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy to those who think." I guess I was feeling more than thinking when I wrote what I did. Or maybe I was drunk. Or maybe it was the work of my Evil Twin! Or maybe... life really IS a dream. In any case... time for a cookie! π
Black swallowtail butterfly emerging and getting ready to fly away after 298 days in a habitat.
UPDATE: Yesterday afternoon I discovered that the first black swallowtail butterfly of the year had emerged! I think it's a girl because of the blue markings. Doesn't look anything like she did when I first put her in the habitat 298 days ago. She flew off to the SW. Good luck, Sweetie! βΊοΈ
WOW! Soooo many gorgeous flowers! I think you now have the prettiest site I've seen on the Internet this year! πππ
Dog license tag #2450. About 1.25 inches in diameter. Apparently made of brass. Apparently issued in 2015 to a dog living in distant Bourne, Massachusetts. I've never owned a dog, partly because I'm not sure I'd be a very good dog owner. When I saw this tag offered for sale on eBay last July, I bought it to see how things would go. I figured if I could handle a dog tag, maybe - just maybe - I could handle an actual dog. Sad to say, I seem to have lost this tag shortly after acquiring it. I thought about making posters with this photo of the tag on them and pinning them up on local utility poles with my contact info and a plea for its safe return, but I was afraid some would think I was cruelly mocking those who have lost an actual pet (which I would never do). Instead, I've patiently waited for it to just turn up - which it hasn't. On the bright side, Bourne, MA seems like a very nice town. I often think of all the good times the dog that wore this tag must have had there. Thousands of good meals. Thousands of good rubbies and head pats. Maybe hundreds of fun games of fetch. Maybe a litter or two of pups. That dog may be gone, and the tag as well, but I have so many good pseudo-memories of both that I find myself smiling more often than crying now. In the end, that's all that really matters, isn't it?
