A white flying saucer structure with tree legs in drifting snow at sunset. Behind are the Canadian, Franco Ontarien flags and a flag representing something I don't recognize.

The flying saucer in Moonbeam, Ontario, population 1,200, as seen 20 years ago. Remote is a bit of a understatement for the town's location. The spacecraft was put up to lure people off of the Trans-Canada Hwy in 1991. Kilo, the town mascot, is a green alien (Nikon D70, 20mm f2.8 Nikkor AF-D)

I spent many summers at Rémi Lake and lots of time in Moonbeam. I remember when the flying saucer was put there. Love it.

Four items listed for sale near Queen's Park on a buy-and-sell app.

Top left: A faux fur scarf for $150.
Top right: A wedding dress for $1396.
Bottom left: Some sort of large antique door knocker with a picture of baby Donald Trump on it for $950.
Bottom Right: A used private jet for $29M. The image shows Kinga Surma standing beside a seated Doug Ford on the private jet the government just spent $28.9M on.

People sell the strangest things on my local buy-and-sell app.

Wait.

Some are outside shoes but mostly get worn indoors. My mom taught me to clean the soles if I planned to wear them indoors at someone’s house. She’s very tidy. Also growing up in Thunder Bay one would wear winter boots half the year.

I wear nice socks or bring inside shoes or slippers.

Agree. But I am curious if jet cost plus all the costs of ownership is more economical than chartering. And why is he travelling so much he needs this. I 100%know he’s not going to Fort Frances or Timmins.

If you think Doug Ford using taxpayer funds to buy his private jet is unrelated to his trying to have jets fly from Toronto's Island Airport, I've got a failed private waterfront spa at Ontario Place, a shuttered Science Centre, and a tunnel under the 401 to sell you.

Great job by Ross here, setting out why the gas tax cut is ill-considered.

I like his final point that it is a sign of freedom and a free society to have prices fluctuate. Societies with stagnant prices that never move are not the kind of places you'd want to live.

School trustees aren’t perfect, but the Ford government’s supposed fix is worse The Financial Accountability Office found that real per-student provincial operating funding in 2024-25 was the lowest in the last decade.

Opinion: Ontario’s new school governance bill does not offer accountability, writes Elizabeth Dhuey. It's about centralization.

I thought Carney was a builder of infrastructure? With $2.4 billion, we could quickly get to incredible levels of intercity bus service.

Medical appointments, family visits, vacations, etc could all be done without a car.

Instead, the people who can afford a car will save ~$5 per tank.

How about restoring cuts to public transit and incentives for EVs? There are solutions that don’t just subsidize oil and gas companies.

Carney spends over $2 billion to cut fuel taxes right after cutting $5 billion in funding dedicated towards supporting, maintaining, & upgrading transit in Toronto and across Canada that millions rely on.

Remember, public transit is the real solution to high fuel prices - not temporary tax cuts!

It's so funny to me that right-wingers love to pretend to love the Middle Ages and the Crusades and all that and then complain that the Pope shouldn't get involved in politics.

this tumblr thread screenshot shows a tiny yellow bird with its talons on a dead mole
person A: so it turns out great tits can and do kill and eat both other birds and small mice when food is scarce, particularly during winter, and I just cannot get over this picture. it looks like a kind of photo hunters take with their kills. I"m losing it.

person b: that's his tinder profile
person c; GREAT TITS CAN AND DO KILL

Also no helium balloons or other “fun” uses. There are many important pieces of research and health equipment costing millions of public dollars that stop working and become garbage if they don’t have helium.
