"Climate policy alone is not enough, but climate policy as energy security, as industrial policy, as local control, can be... Greater control over one's own electricity. It's not just technical solutions — it's a story about who decides."

Utilities build for peak demand. Energy efficiency (as well as rooftop solar) reduces it. That's why it's a mistake, as MD just did, to gut energy efficiency programs thinking it'll save ratepayers money. Maybe a few cents now, but not in the long-run ...

Covered by most newspapers. Amusing point = PM Carney had a miniature toy soldier of Major-General Sir Isaac Brock to represent the War of 1812 against one neighbour.
Somewhat.

solar roof on a distribution centre
Aldi Suisse has inaugurated 🇨🇭 Switzerland's largest rooftop solar installation, with a capacity of 10 MWp / 8 GWh, at its distribution centre in Domdidier.

good point,
mostly a nightmare, terabytes of data. + as covered by CIP, handing a year's worth of site-specific data to a 1/3 party is a legal and security headache that I will reject instantly.
Great arguments by @aripeskoe.bsky.social on why "FERC should revisit its transmission pricing policy so that it requires utilities to assign the full costs of transmission service to power-hungry data centers."

I have two pieces today on how a 1990s FERC policy intended to spur competitive markets is being understood to prevent data centers from covering their transmission costs.

being Canadian, I just thought about it.
A question today: "If you were asked to integrate AI into a Bulk Power System tomorrow: shat would be your N-1 equivalent for AI failure?"
Our core challenge is energy density and duration. No easy fixes.
Some hydrogen in both countries but limited to industrial purposes. As for Quebec and Norway, they benefit from hydro reservoirs. Energy conserved in the summer supports winter peaking conditions. Some kind of arbitrage, all about saving water.
Surprisingly Norway is adding up to 8 TWh by 2030 of solar = benefits of long summer days. In Canada - Quebec, HQ is aiming to add 3 GW of solar capacity by 2035 with grants of $1,000/kW (up to 40% of costs) for customers.
Crypto-based predictions are always shady depending on where you stand.
NASA astronaut Victor Glover, Artemis II pilot, left, and NASA astronaut Christina Koch, Artemis II mission specialist are seen sitting on a Navy MH-60 Seahawk from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23 on the flight deck of USS John P. Murtha after they and fellow crewmates CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, Artemis II mission specialist, and NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, Artemis II commander, were extracted from their Orion spacecraft after splashdown, Friday, April 10, 2026, in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. NASA’s Artemis II mission took the quartet on a nearly 10-day journey around the Moon and back to Earth. Following a splashdown at 5:07 p.m. PDT (8:07 p.m. EDT), NASA, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force teams are working to bring the Orion spacecraft aboard the recovery ship. China's upcoming "five-year plan includes a stated ambition to strengthen green technological dominance. - The expertise in renewable energy is mainly in China now. As it stands now, the rest of the world will be dependent on China for the foreseeable future..."

"Large member states such as Germany, Italy and Spain want to be able to impose an extra tax on energy companies that profit from the energy crisis."
www.energiogklima.no
New York has far exceeded the interim target on its energy storage road map — 1.5 GW of capacity by the end of 2025 — but has more work ahead as it pursues 6 GW by 2030.

The “reliable” label can be break down easily = overall aging fleet with high forced outage rates compared to other sources + lack of flexibility which is increasing needed due to renewable and loads like AI/DC + common-mode failures under extreme cold where coal pile freezes as shown in Texas.

Nothing left of northvolt. Demolished/sold as scrap metal. Option seems "co-location" in Alberta. No shipping raw sulphur just finished batteries. Federal + provincial officials shall be interested since Alberta is developing its own DLE industry ( E3 Lithium). Can combine lithium with local sulfur.
Li-S battery is a sound option for this yellow by-product. Alberta appears well-positioned to make everyone a "winner". Worth exploring.
with so many yellowish stockpiles around, hell on earth might be all about transport costs. Just curious if ongoing war might have an impact on Canadian sulphur's availability. Still have two weeks to crush numbers.
No open combat for wind and solar, but victory remains Chinese.
