Seeing so many friends post gorgeous photos of hiking/biking/being among wildflowers over the weekend is a good reminder of why protecting our natural areas is so important. Everyone everyone should have access to nature. To live, to breathe, to be.

Young girl in mid-air on a dubious rope swing. Her mouth is open, and she is obviously having fun
It has come to my attention that I haven't posted visual joy in a while. Here is young me on the dubious but awesome rope swing over the bluff that used to be at Milo McIver State Park in Oregon. Dear danger slide, that's a see and a raise. :) #cheapthrill #genxchildhood #raisedferal
A screenshot of the Portland City Council Public Works Committee, with a graph titled "Projected Water System Revenue Bonds" that shows that future revenue bond debt service is a large component of future rate increases.
@councilorgreen.bsky.social just noted that this would mean that people's water rates would effectively double from current rates within eight years. @1000oregon.bsky.social has raised the flag of how this could factor into displacement.
Hearing that the City of #Portland proposed authorization of up to $525,000,000 in water revenue bonds for Bull Run will mean up to 9% (NINE PERCENT) of annual (ANNUAL) rate water rate increases is breathtaking. Listen in: www.portland.gov/council/agen...

#foreverwars #deathandtaxes
I lived in NYC during 9/11, and afterwards accepted a job in a different country so as to not pay for a war that used a friend's death as its justification. Here we are, 25 yrs later, and I'm doing taxes that are paying for genocide, the disappearing and unaliving of US residents, etc. I'm so angry.
This is why the photo of Artemis II mission control matters. So to all of you (mostly women) who organize the farmers markets, the local campaigns, the block parties, the food pantries, thank you. I see you in this image. www.newsweek.com/photo-of-nas...
I continue to be shocked but should not be surprised to see women doing all the prep work for an event or project, and then men walk through the door expecting to receive a chunk of the credit. And they get it. (And please miss me with the, "Well, maybe you should..." Spare me.)
Come on then, and remove him.
Don't let this moment erode your humanity. Don't allow this uncertainty to make you feel siloed and helpless.
Defend your own decency and our collective decency, because if those are lost, we won't hold much else.
I'm glad you could afford a bike!
Why do you say that?
Thank you for sharing your story. And that's really good feedback. I wonder if trading up could be part of a future iteration. I just traded up my battery system because the system manufacturer went bankrupt. It was much cheaper than a new e-bike, but still not cheap!
And also, I stand by my statement. :)
Ah. Yes, that tracks.
A LIFT Acquisition Fund could have been a great thing to have passed in the legislature last year.
It's a little buried in the FAQ section: www.portland.gov/phb/document...
YES! That model is also a lot easier on bike shops, which have a really thin profit margin. This was an outcome of the PCEF transportation decarbonization roundtable I was grateful to join as then-executive director of the Community Cycling Center. It's the process working! Thank you. <3
How was the pilot program for you? And have you used your e-bike much?
Congrats on your first e-bike commute, Matt!
Just in time for great weather and terrible gas prices, it's Portland's PCEF-funded E-bike Rebate Program:
* Standard: up to $1,600
* Cargo: up to $2,350
* Adaptive: up to $8,500
Eligibility: Income at or below 60% AMI, age 18 or over, and live in Portland. Check it out:

"...the failure by Defendant to produce this evidence more than a year after the public records request is egregious." πππ
Having just organized my uncle's funeral mass the same week as we discussed fuel storage at the CEI Hub, I've been thinking about the knowable grief of a person's death and our community rituals, versus the profundity of ongoing climate grief, without ritual. How do we metabolize Cassandra's Curse?
βAir pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.β
Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life.
Common sense.
Such a no-brainer, itβs remarkable that more cities HAVENβT done the same.
Wishing everyone a blessed Eid and a blessed Nowruz. It is rare that these two events coincide, and I can't imagine how that feels this year. May everyone who celebrates experience peace today. www.aljazeera.com/video/newsfe...
Yes! I find I'm much more likely to apologize when there is ambiguity about what happened, and I knee-jerk to, "oof this is messy, and generally a lot of people co-create messiness, so I want to pattern good behavior and take responsibility for my part." Before I know it, I'm holding the whole bag.
Dear reformed serial apologists: How did you kick the habit?
.
I once again found myself apologizing for something that happened while I was away and over which I had zero control or input. And people let me. It's ridiculous and robs everyone of accountability and refining better process.
I appreciate @jesscraven101.bsky.social's newsletter always & her reminder that this fight for democracy and, like, a survivable planet is going to take sustained effort. Hydrate, take a break when you need, and let's win this thing. It's a relay race, not a sprint. open.substack.com/pub/chopwood...
Thank you, and sorry for ugly crying there. Appreciate everyone who showed up and who continue to show up.
