Zohran Mamdani on CBS — “Socialist politics can flourish anywhere, because there is only one majority in this country, and that is the working class. It’s time we have a politics that puts them at the heart of what we’re doing, not in the appendix.”

America’s Mayor can’t miss.

Fans of blues music will not want to miss the sound from the recently-discovered 1940 shellac master test pressing of Robert Johnson performing "Cross Road Blues"—a famous track, now available with vastly better sound. (via Ted Gioia)

I’d be a lot more worried about a “Woe to those” warning from THE POPE than any two-bit politician, even if it’s the VP (or POTUS).

Schools across America are quietly admitting that screens in classrooms made students worse off and are reversing years of tech-first policies | Fortune Millions were spent putting laptops in every student’s hands. Now schools want them back as technology in the classroom is turning out not to be the miracle solution it was sold as.

Btw I like that it was regular old NASA launching that rocket to the delight of everyone, and not that fuckass pretender Boer who promises everything and accomplishes nothing. Get wrecked bitch

Thanks for the replies! I was mainly just being a bit light-hearted. I thought it was kinda funny (though maybe not) that the communications weren’t working as expected, after being able to communicate pretty flawlessly when they were 200,000 miles away.

If they can’t contact the Artemis crew via radio, don’t they have iPhones in the capsule they were using to take photos of the moon? What’s the number? We can all give ‘em a call.

hello today I wrote about something that's been driving me crazy lately: the proliferation of beloved local businesses turning to off-putting AI slop. I sat down with one of them to ask why nygroove.nyc/local-busine...

"Luddites" is a good term for those who oppose AI because the Luddites weren't against *all* technology, just forms of technology that they knew would pay workers less and turn out a shittier product

Alex and Renee were protesting peacefully. As was their right. It's a gross insult to their memory to blame them for their own murders.

I feel sick to my stomach waiting around to see what atrocity Trump has in mind for the people of Iran this evening. It's hard to fathom our other elected leaders aren't able to check him in any meaningful way. It's an indictment not just of voters but of our whole system. We're ruled by a mad king.

The Artemis II crew should’ve asked Trump about his hand during their livestream tonight.

Thanks for clarifying. I saw the video and looked at NASA’s website to see if *they* had posted it, and of course they hadn’t so I knew it was suspicious.

The biggest story in the world right now is that the president of the United States is a demented old man who takes pleasure in torturing and killing people and is committing crimes with impunity. And yet most legacy media outlets are too cowardly to tell it like it is.

I’d add that means testing adds a costly layer of bureaucracy that goes to the pockets of expensive consulting firms. It’s cheaper for government to just provide universal services than to sort out who is “worthy” (and yes, tax the rich)

They pay $34 for burgers. Should their fire department service be free? Opening a new fire department in one of NYC's richest neighborhoods has some of America's pettiest journalists asking silly questions in headlines again.🤡

The article acknowledges the fire department analogy, then blows past it
