My story, subject of the thread was published last week in Middle East Eye, co-written w/ Oscar Rickett. Sorry, not exactly a "short" thread.
Sudan's war is the worst ongoing conflict in the world, with widespread CRSV, mass displacement & genocide all documented.
May year 3 be the last.

for sure, congratulations to magyar. but the real heroes imo are those in civil society & journalism & rank-and-file opposition & academia who have fought against the disintegration of rule of law, the weaponization of the courts/media, & so much more for so long. 🇭🇺

This isn't uncommon and, imo, is a good indicator of weak political commitment to a ceasefire. If parties are committed and intend to comply, they want specifics written down to hold the other side accountable. If not, parties prefer vagueness that leaves violations open to interpretation.
For those asking on illegality: The threat itself is a violation of IHL, incorporated into the U.S. DoD's Law of War Manual under 10.5.3.2: "Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited." And, if carried out the way he makes it sound --> genocide
Critical situation in #DRC, still, with ongoing violence & volatile political situation. I mean, #MONUSCO (& its predecessor MONUC) has been around for decades. Easy to become complacent about a situation in those circumstances. www.jurist.org/news/2026/03...
Sandra Wong, the great granddaughter of Wong Kim Ark, is preparing to march at the #NoKings Rally in San Francisco. Today is the 128th Anniversary of the SCOTUS decision affirming birthright citizenship.
The US government collected over $1 billion in immigration fees then refused to process the applications. No denials. No refunds. Just silence. This is the largest fee fraud in the history of the American immigration system. Here's what's happening. 🧵
Sounds like usufruct: “The policy outlines three types of land-use agreements: access agreements that allow tribal members onto the land to reincorporate it into their communities and cultures, collaborative agreements in which land owners work with tribes to care for the land, and land return.”
The way our nation turned its back on those who helped us at great risk to themselves and their families is an unforgivable national shame.
We owed Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal. Instead, ICE arrested him in front of his children and he died in their custody. We failed him and his family.

IIFFM #Sudan found 'hallmarks of #genocide' in the attacks on El-Fasher. BUT this is in the context of almost 3 yrs of such violent, ethnically/racially targeted crimes, where non-Arab communities are targeted for rape & killings. A resurgence of the early 2000s genocide. news.un.org/en/story/202...
"Dr. Lafayette played a key role in many of the events that defined the civil rights movement. Soft-spoken and bespectacled, he was known for his meticulous organizing skills and his commitment to nonviolence."

🧵 Today at @timep.bsky.social, we're launching "The Arab Uprisings 15 Years On: More Than a Moment."
I'd like to tell you a bit more.
This year, we mark fifteen years since the Arab Uprisings, the single most significant event that changed my life and the life of so many in my generation. (1)
"Five years on, the Myanmar junta has failed to break the will of the people to resist its tyranny and system of repression. It has neither legitimacy nor mandate, and can only resort to violence against the ppl."

Political Scientists would call it a "tactical concession" (RRS' Spiral Model). Human rights and democracy campaigners need to make sure it leads to more gains (positive spiral) instead of stalling progress (negative spiral).

Useful framing from the Sanaa Center about the current moment in #Yemen. The government has yet to meet the lowest bar: delivering basic security and services, meaningfully including Southerners and other voices, and conducting govt business through govt institutions, not non-state networks.
Yes, this. Tactical brilliance. In addition to SELMA (2014), the American experience episode on the sit-ins is terrific in this regard. I often show young organizers the segment on prepping for sit-ins as an example of setting a goal and planning backwards from it for everything you'll need.
The surge of DHS agents into Minnesota has done tremendous harm to the people of Minnesota, and I urge those who have personally experienced or directly witnessed that harm to share their stories with my office.

Giants Brigades are taking control in Aden from STC forces. So far they’re at the presidential palace and central bank. Talking to folks earlier, they described lots of new checkpoints with “new people”. The Giants are believed to be temporary before passing control to Saudi-backed National Shield.

The UAE removing their own forces from bases in southern Yemen does not change events or control on the ground. The issue is over USE-backed STC and Hadhrami Elite Forces.
The UAE appears to be putting its own interpretation on Saudi’s very clear demands.
