Enjoyed playing around with this - 1*1m disc woven from bamboo splits. The hole weave design is something I've seen women in the hilltribe area of thailand. Getting the bamboo splits into a reasonable circle was a challenge!

I've bought a few trays and suchlike lately made of bamboo, which seems to be a quality material in that scale, and wonder if is also a somewhat ignored (in Australia) material for building construction? This claims so

It is! Trouble is that Bamboo is not a standard shape, which makes it difficult to 'plug in' to the building industry. Working with bamboo needs a different approach to design. This is an issue that has many in the bamboo industry scratching their heads...

Not a bad idea. But the stems will degrade in a few years. If you treated them with borax they would last longer - but in contact with water they're still going to end up soil again.

Paul - where are you establishing in Europe? I've heard of Bamboo Logic but that's about it. I'm after some bamboo splits, and maybe some poles, but also interested in the European bamboo scene...

A few weeks ago I went down to the local bamboo carpenters near my house in Thailand. I asked if they could drill me some holes. They looked at me in some confusion—they didn’t have a drill! Instead, they did this. Awesome.
