Text: "it is unfortunate that there's no reason for most people to remember high school chemistry because the best analogy I have found for "the amount of energy it takes me to initiate a task, which can be higher than the amount of energy it takes to actually complete the task" is "activation energy" and it's not precisely perfect, but.. (Then a picture is included of a graph, the Y axis being potential energy, the X being progress of reaction. As the line begins, the initial state (reactants) starts low, climbs high to reach a point indicated as Activation Energy (transition state, activated complex), which is much higher than the energy further down the graph which depicts final state (products).

Yeah, where you're at, the Overgoods would go to a place in Salt Lake City. After a time, if unclaimed, they end up sold off individually or in lots, as I understand it, though I've not had personal experience with that end of the process.

A larger hub is likely fully staffed, and things don't really sit around within them, especially this time of year. Volume is low, things get pushed out and cleaned, metrics demand these packages move. The smaller buildings, meanwhile, are being shutdown and consolidated.

Further, it looks like you made a copy of the label and placed it inside. If it got to a UPS hub or center, any investigation should have found the second label. You packed everything there absolutely correctly, there's really no good accounting for this, from my viewpoint.

There's no reason they should sit that long, unless your local UPS hub/center has lost all its clerks. They did just transition the clerks from positions on different shifts, and removed some full time positions in the process, though this only happened three weeks ago, about, I think it was.

If it does end up within the UPS system without a label for some reason - it got torn from its pouch, leaked on, etc, with no identifiable destination/return address, a clerk would send the box to something called Overgoods, after making a description of it, waiting to be matched up there.

If it had at least gotten an inside UPS facility scan, it'd be very helpful. The UPS Store itself are individual franchises, even if the overall business is owned by UPS - but very different employees than a driver might be, so I can't quite say how the store itself handled things.

No scans after label creation? It might have been handed off to something, by accident, other than UPS itself. The stores often have pickup/dropoff for other services, which might have snagged it in the wrong pile. The label pouch could have torn and emptied, as an alternative.
