the most bold and prescient adaptational choice stand alone complex made was to respond to masamune shirow laying down “the major should have multiple hot lesbian girlfriends at all times” with yeah. and she should be ignoring them to post on forums

On the last, the line you could theoretically trip: Your characters have an extended talk where they make up a story involving those fictional characters. You might, at that point, be just using those characters in your own fiction. (But still might fair-use if that story is a critique of the work).

Copyright protection for fictional characters - Wikipedia

You can talk *about* basically anything. It's when you use their copyrighted materials in some way. Showing pictures of characters, quoting a work's text, or using a large amount of a character's identifiable aspects, now you're wading into copyright territory. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyrig...

Quite frankly to the extent that coding agents "work", which is in itself uncertain and debatable, I think "more software, faster, with less thought put into it" is *itself* a negative externality

You’ll find that every American art industry is pivoting to not making anything, has been for 10-15 years, and there are charts about profit from this that you’re not allowed to argue with. The fake promise of AI has only made this worse. It’s awesome

is the games industry unsustainable or are the people running it just deeply sick.

Honestly the Unity animator being so insanely black box makes it basically a non starter for anything multiplayer hitbox dependent and that's so crazy for one of the biggest engines in the world.

This seems to be the biggest win Tetris has had legally: www.wired.com/story/tetris...

Which is not to say they *won't* C&D you, they've had success bullying apple and google into removing clones. But it seems like they mostly go after true "clones" and don't usually touch obvious derivatives.

There is no salary legally low enough to make some of those projects add up, and I see what the low end salary range on their job listings is saying.

Even with my budgets in the *very low* millions. I look at a bunch of nominally indie studios that inflate to like 50 staff and I just... I can't make the math add up on expected sales numbers and having any future. Which... yeah we've seen a lot of doors closing recently with funding dried up.

I am awaiting Meta rebranding itself Artificial so we can watch this same stupidity once again.

If he's going to get a national profile on the strength of a younger woman's campaign, I'm going to come out and say it: during his short-lived tenure as a math professor, Biss had an inappropriate romantic relationship with one of his undergraduate students. I was that student.

We're heading to PAX East this year! We'll be setup for 5v5 space combat - 10 players, all in the same match.

Hope to see you there!

Like, "was this worth writing down" is the ultimate razor for "is this worth reading". We really just end up back at the "why would I bother to read something nobody bothered to write" space. That's all any AI is. Everything is just permutations of that.

Totally fucking useless for design

I watched them again recently and it's like... if this is what a middling film was like around 2010, I want to go back to that era of film. Unique camera work and styling, great pacing, fun acting, and fun to watch.

I'm slowly becoming convinced it's not worth doing business in the UK :P

Absolutely not. It's definitely a compound now referring to a single concept. You can't linguistically or conceptually split it apart so it's one word. (And anyone that uses a dash for compound words is a coward.)

one difficulty of doing real genuine criticism about fascism in popular art is that it really is the background radiation of our culture so you can argue this about most popular things, which perversely just makes criticism seem like a zero sum game
