I’ve been warmly welcomed in my first week as University Librarian at University College Cork. I’m delighted to be here and very much looking forward to working with students, the Library team and University colleagues. Many thanks to @acarbery.bsky.social for his leadership as Interim Librarian.

A woman with a bob haircut, wearing large black glasses and a grey button-up shirt, stands smiling in front of a scientific poster titled "Shining a Light on Our Collections: Cyanotype Printing as Public Engagement." She wears a lanyard. The poster behind her includes diagrams and text explaining cyanotype printing. Text on the image reads: "Mona Power – Shining a Light on Collections: Cyanotype Printing as Public Engagement.
Shout out to our colleague Mona Power who presented a poster at the @conulconference.bsky.social this week titled "Shining a Light on Collections: Cyanotype Printing as Public Engagement."

Well deserved. Congrats and thanks again for joining us, and for all that you do to advocate for Irish libraries, Irish literature and reading.
... for selecting me to join the handful of recipients of their President's medal - an award given to someone who, while not working in libraries, has an exceptional record of promoting libraries and reading.
It was genuinely humbling. Thank you all.
Believe it or not, I was presented with an award for the first time ever in my career yesterday morning, and it was from some of the finest people in the book world - librarians!
So thank you from the bottom of my heart to the @laibluesky.bsky.social and new president Lorna Dodd...

Absolutely my most favourite day on campus all semester. Why? Because we gathered as a team to hear the presentations from our amazing student interns (only our 2nd ever cohort!). They shared their experiences as an intern, the projects they worked on and their recommendations for future interns!
Have a fab conference.

Public libraries are amazing!
Did you know you can borrow a book from any library in the country and return it to any other library?
Did you know they have subscriptions to huge amounts of national and international media that you can access?
Two things - The LAI/CILIP Ireland Joint Conference is in Cork, like, on April 10th-11th in the Kingsley Hotel. And the call for papers is now open! conference.libraryassociation.ie/call-for-pap...
Our five-credit Information Literacy module for research students goes from strength to strength. I think we remain the only University in the country to offer a credit-bearing course for #infolit (but open to correction). Run by our fab Learning & Teaching team here in the library.
