1. LLMs and image and video generation come at enormous environmental cost, both locally (diverting water and energy and increasing community costs) and globally (hello climate change). Our use of these products has real world environmental impact.
2. AI companies exploit people training the models, especially in the global south. Karen Hao detailed this in her book Empire of AI, and 404 Media has done important followup work. Our use of these products adds to that exploitation.
Flashback to the time I created Judith Butler as a custom wrestler in WWE 2K24 (complete with a ring announcer call-out).

I just saw a job listing for an "experienced and energetic" comms professional and I'm sorry but I think you need to pick one.
"Anthropic says" a LOT of things.
And even more crucially, "Anthropic says," which is something that should encourage everyone to take this nonsense with a K-2 sized grain of salt.
What, exactly are the "functions similar to human feelings?"
Self-preservation mode and an impulse to blackmail humans when threatened with shutdown or failure.
This is the disclaimer they used to have on TV commercials for Ms Cleo.
I know what everyone is trying to say here but F-series trucks are fleet vehicles for like every construction company so maybe reserve judgment for every American driver bc most of us are just trying to make life bearable in unwalkabe communities

My nephew wanted his 10th birthday theme to be his cat, so I made him a Remy cake.
I have a feeling that the US in general has always benefitted from an illusion of impenetrability but the attacks on our bases abroad are showing that it was mostly held up with rhetoric and an unwillingness to test it.
For some context, American air space has always been vulnerable. There’s a decades old mythology of “UFOs are interested in our atomic sites” to cover up the fact that China and Russia are able to violate our defenses with impunity.

I mean, to be clear, I don't doubt that prison labor is being used to do this, I just knew that there were actually machines that did it. Which actually makes it worse, really; there are machines that can do this, but they're using prison labor anyway?
They might just toss it
TFW youre the future of art and technology and youre definitely doing fine and the billions of dollars you need to raise every quarter are a good investment
I remember listening to some Onion writers on NPR talk about how they had to handle the day delicately. They brought up some of the headlines they didn't use, one of which was my favorite: "Quadragon Ponders Next Move."

The First University in the Nation to Build a Center Dedicated to the Creator Economy Syracuse University is creating something that doesn't exist anywhere else in higher education. The Center for the Creator Economy is the first academic center of its kind on a U.S. college campus. Led jointly by the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Martin). Whitman School of Management, the center reinforces Syracuse University's commitment to bold, forward-looking academic leadership. By aligning strengths in entrepreneurship, media, communications, athletics and digital infrastructure, the University is charting how higher education can prepare students for the 21st-century economy.
Another university getting rid of things you could only ever do at a university and replacing them with stuff a 13-year-old can do on a phone
I really feel like this should be a bigger story. Like someday we'll talk about the beginning of the petro yuan like they talked about the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.
genuinely why does anyone report anything he says at all as if it means anything still
America’s only protection from the threat of Marxism is illiteracy and the Republican Party are champions in the battle against education. Can’t go woke if we strangle you in your sleep!
