A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." ALERT From Thursday 8/7 till at least Saturday 8/16 there will be increased federal law enforcement presence in Washington DC, including ICE and other agencies (FBI, DEA, ATF). The National Guard will also be deployed. So far they have been targeting federal park land (Logan Circle, Dupont Circle), high traffic nightlife areas and metro stops (Adams Morgan, U Street, the Wharf, Gallery Place, Columbia Heights), and predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods in wards 7 & 8. Most of these operations have been after dark. We advise folks to avoid gathering in federal park areas or traveling alone, especially after dark. The Trump administration has stated they will also be targeting unhoused people starting Monday 8/11 with threats of involuntary hospitalization, forced transfer out of DC, or arrest. This could be in the early morning hours. If you see ICE agent activity or law enforcement targeting encampments, call the Migrant Solidarity Hotline at 202-335-1183
