Yes, a lot of people don't. People often get into game dev without any background on how graphics work.
So when people see a way to reduce lag frames that appears to work, they are just happy to check off that part of work.
The best/released games often have a backbone of if statements.

No one would write a text library that calls a print command for every separate character...
i hope people writ large are not stupid enough to fall for this as an excuse anymore! It was already shaky when deployed on games where only one or two examples could be found but this is just obviously lying, it is incredibly pervasive and extremely easy to notice.
