Christian Nationalism vs. Sufism

Two very different visions of faith and spirituality

Christian Nationalism:
1. Believes America is chosen by God and should be a “Christian nation”
2. Views America as morally superior and defines who counts as a “real” American
3. Equates loyalty to their own culture and beliefs with Christianity
4. Reinterprets Christianity and the Bible to align with political and cultural interests
5. Seeks political power to control government over religion, belief, and behavior
6. Abuses faith and law to consolidate power and wealth
7. Relies on false accusation, fear, division, and warfare to gain and hold power

Sufism:
1. Sees all nations and peoples as equal before God, without any one nation chosen above others
2. Rejects claims of moral superiority and emphasizes humility and the equal worth of all people
3. Places loyalty to God and truth above culture, identity, or nationality
4. Seeks deeper spiritual meaning through reflection, not reinterpretation for political or material gain
5. Avoids political domination, focusing instead on inner transformation and ethical living
6. Renounces accumulation of power and wealth, emphasizing simplicity, generosity, and detachment
7. Responds to conflict with compassion, truth, and nonviolence, seeking unity over division

Works with Christian Mysticism as well

In the Bible, Jewish and Christian nationalism are determined to be a blatant form of self-idolatry.

The Qur'an says much the same, at 3:103, 4:135, 5:8, 6:159, 9:31, 25:43, 30:32, 33:67-68, 45:23, and 49:13.

the beginning of ibn arabi's chapter on the waystation of trial (#317). "why did he not from the first build that house / to last, its life not to perish? / it did nothing to deserve ruin / so why did he raise it up and why did he lay it waste / the hand of trial but toyed with us and it..."

America can only be saved through wholesale conversion to Sufism.

Crazy how there are religions (including Christian sects!) that preach ego death as part of the process of spiritual enlightenment, and then there's whatever the fuck this is.

If you spend time around American evangelicals you quickly realize that they assign all of their own tastes, impulses, habits, to God. If they like someone? God put that person there. If they make a mistake? God’s plan. If you make a mistake? Satan is inside you and you must submit to God (them)

In addition to the Olympia concert material, the CD features a unique recorded version of "What Will You Say", performed as a duet with Azerbaijani Mugham singer Alim Qasimov. This recording is from the 1995
"Festival of Sacred Music" held in France (July 18, 1995 in Saint-Florent-Le-Vieil, Maine-et-Loire) and features just Buckley on guitar, Qasimov on daf drum and the two taking turns in singing in a competitive vocal performance, which is one aspect of traditional Qawwali.

Marxism and psychology - Socialist Worker Continuing a strand of debate, Canadian socialist Susan Rosenthal argues that we must look to social rather than individual solutions to mental ill health.

This socialist argument -- that collective solutions are needed for collective suffering -- resonates with the Sufi insistence on community (sohbet) over individualism. The reed's cry of separation is not only spiritual. Sometimes it is a cry against unjust conditions.

Research shows social support and stable housing outperform medication for severe mental illness. The material matters. Sufism has always known that the conditions of life shape the condition of the heart -- safa cannot be cultivated in isolation from justice.

Marxism and Psychology - Susan Rosenthal Biological psychiatry treats mental distress as an individual defect. Marxism treats it as the inevitable consequence of capitalist oppression.

A Marxist analysis of mental illness argues the wound is social, not individual: Alienation and poverty produce suffering more than faulty brain chemistry. As Sufis, we might ask: does this not mirror the teaching that the nafs is shaped by what surrounds it?

Guénon was an esotericist who moved from Catholicism through theosophy to Sufi Islam, calling for elite aristocratic order and denouncing industrial materialism. In Sufism he saw a vessel for the false nostalgia of traditionalism to be preserved. Is Steve Bannon doing something similar with Vance?

4 days ago 0 1 1 0

Bannon is doing something similar with the philosophy of Evola, and he's using Vance, Milo Yiannopoulis, and a number of other Nazis to infiltrate the Catholic and Orthodox churches to attempt it. The difference between Guenon and Evola, though is that Guenon was okay with the Abrahamic God.
