It's Monday post-Artemis and I probably owe you a message back

The collective sigh of relief from the space reporters here at NASA JSC when the Artemis II crew splashed down will be one of my favorite memories
Some moon joy for the timeline this morning
First rule of Artemis II press conferences: You do not talk about the budget
Second rule of Artemis II press conferences: You do NOT talk about the budget
More pics incoming here. Just gonna stare at these today as therapy for everything else going on www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
Um OKAY. Breathtaking photos from the Artemis II crew's lunar flyby and eclipse viewing
It's really been a great day on the job. It can be easy to get cynical about covering spaceflight sometimes, especially when it feels like 90 percent of the job is reporting delays. But you can't not be charmed by the joy and wonder of the Artemis II mission and crew
Acquisition of signal! Welcome back to comms Artemis II crew (or sorry?)
losing contact with the earth for 40 minutes sounds nice
And now we wait: 40 minute loss of signal as the crew goes behind the moon.

The Orion toilet is "no go" again :-/
Reid Wiseman on #Artemis II: "We have Earth out window 4 and Moon out window 3... the Moon is about 3-4 times the size of the Earth and it is almost full, and the Earth is just a small crescent out there... it's magnificent... such a majestic view out here"
Mission Control: "Amaze, amaze, amaze!"
Emotionally recovering after the crater dedication to Wiseman's late wife Carroll
The Artemis II crew have now traveled farther into space than any other human

The Artemis II crew just listened to a lovely voice note recorded by Jim Lovell, the late commander of the Apollo 13 mission and the command module pilot of Apollo 8 www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3kR...
It's important that this is read and recited in the same tone as Lady Gaga's Rain On Me

More proposed cuts to NASA in the new president budget request. A topline budget of $18.8 billion, which is a 23% decrease to the enacted budget for this year. Once again, science takes a significant proposed cut -- we'll see if it flies with Congress www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...
You're making me flush
Engine burn is underway. It will last a little under six minutes

Roughtly 10 minutes away from the Artemis II translunar injection burn that will send the crew en route to the moon. Watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3kR...
It's launch day (potentially) here at NASA's Kennedy Space Center! Propellant loading is already well underway. Follow updates with NASA here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3kR...

Current NASA leadership is trying to change that with a major revamp of the program while on the cusp of this launch. And there are certainly more changes to come.
