Like I get what he's saying but Ireland actually mostly exports high value luxury items like dairy and meat and ingredients like milk powder. We actually import most of what people actually eat

responding to the looming risk of a catastrophic disruption to global supply chains that could last for months if not years by shutting down the national road network to demand tax cuts is a more cutting indictment of the pettiness of Irish politics than I could ever write

NOW: B52 bombers are literally in the air on their way to Iran and hundreds of thousands of Iranians are in the streets waving flags and surrounding bridges & power plants.

Difficult to imagine this has any precedent in modern warfare.

Ironically it's easy enough to make white wine with semi ripe Irish grapes, but you need real sunshine to develop a red - or a greenhouse

What gets my goat is when I've booked a bike space and seat, but the bike spaces end up being on the wrong carriage. Happens very frequently and puts me in an impossible situation

I remember you helping me to get vinyl stickers printed for an arcade game I was building as a present for my son

Why do we live in such a childish, stupid country? A country that wastes its money on useless billion dollar aircraft carriers, when it could be spending those tax dollars to actually help its citizens like sane countries.

These people have a funny way of saying "Environmentalists have been proved right yet again."

No. A 13yo MacBook is still fast, in fact faster UI than Linux. The problem is a lot of software won't run. Whereas it's fully supported by fedora, bar a little tussle with the wifi. I never tried fedora before, really impressed compared with Ubuntu.

I just installed fedora on a 13 year old MacBook which no longer receives security updates. Great experience!

As Trump contemplates deploying ground troops in Iran, it's time to reinstate the Ancient Greek principle: that anyone declaring war is expected to lead their army into battle.

horses for courses. I love that I now have 5Gb fibre in rural Ireland. The network built nowadays to handle netflix and tiktok can handle an awful lot of low level publishing and mail

interesting points! for me, hosting at home means not paying for cloud storage or anything at all really, apart from domain fees - I'm using "retired" hardware, nothing less than 10 years old.

fair enough! The reason I ask is as someone who has been investing some time setting up a server actually under my desk, I've run into some gotchas that I think wouldn't come up when using managed infrastructure
