Kyle Herron (@kyleherron) It’s quite rich that some content creators try to dismiss MLK Jr. based on his positions on dogmatic issues (the virgin birth, bodily resurrection) and his economic leanings (wealth distribution). Wha...

The hypocrisy of content creators dismissing MLK over theological/economic positions while ignoring Trump’s moral turpitude is rich.

When the church blesses the flag before the table, it’s already chosen its liturgy.

The Magi Refused to Kneel and so Should We I’m late in writing this Epiphany reflection, but current events demand it. Epiphany is not a sentimental add-on to the Christmas story. It is a confrontation—one that forces a choice about power, allegiance, and worship. January 6 marks the Christian feast of Epiphany, the celebration of the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child. The story appears only in the Gospel of Matthew and has accumulated layers of tradition over time: three visitors, royal titles, even names.

Christ’s Table: No Documentation Required. Many Christians today feel untethered- searching for a place to land. Strident, angry voices in public square belong to those preaching exclusion, fear, and control. Christian Nationalists claim to speak for the faith, but their message and desire for power and dominance is nothing like the gospel of Jesus Christ. Consequently, many believers are left feeling overshadowed, overwhelmed, and drowned out by rhetoric that builds walls instead of opening hearts.

Gatsby’s Green Light and the Need for Obstinance I just completed reading The Great Gatsby for nearly the 40th time with my current crop of students. If only I, as a teacher, could use the novel to properly teach students to connect its message to the current mess we’re in. It’s filled with many iconic literary quotes, but this one often runs under the radar—yet it has always caught my attention.

Advent watchfulness looks like:

Justice Mercy Faith T-Shirt — Colorful Inspirational Graphic Tee This relaxed-fit tee speaks simply and loudly: Justice. Mercy. Faith. Each word is printed in a soft, slightly weathered palette that feels handwritten and hopeful. The heavyweight, garment-dyed cotton drapes comfortably and holds its color wash after wash, so the message stays part of your everyday look — whether you’re heading to a community meeting, a weekend service, or a casual afternoon with friends.

When the Church said Yes to Satan I believe in the Devil- not because a horned villain lurks in my theology, but because he lives in the imaginations of those who crave power at any cost.

When the Church Said Yes to Satan When the Church said Yes to Satan I believe in the Devil- not because a horned villain lurks in my theology, but because he lives in the imaginations of those who crave power at any cost. Eric Hoffer argued that "mass movement can rise and spread without a belief in God, but never without a belief in a devil." This claim is playing out before our very eyes.

“Americans, while occasionally willing to be serfs, have always been obstinate about being peasantry.” Fitzgerald.

We’re definitely in a time of serfdom- but we may not be able to ward off peasantry for many Americans this time around.

May our fasting this season be the kind that pleases God: not one of mere self-denial, but one of self-giving. Not one of empty words, but of bold action. May we be reflectors of God's way, bringing healing to a world in need of justice, mercy, and love. #lent2025 @christianchurchdoc.bsky.social

It is a call to embody the gospel, to stand with the marginalized, and to resist any system—religious or political—that denies the image of God in another.

in a thunderous manner. When justice is corrupted, the vulnerable are cast aside, and the safety nets are defunded, we are called to repair the breach (Isaiah 58:12). The Lenten journey is not merely a private reflection but a public reorientation toward God’s justice.

Lent 2025
American Christianity is often reduced to a "personal relationship" with God that ignores the communal & public ministry of Jesus. This is a perversion of the Gospel. The church must be public & outspoken in times such as these.
When leaders exploit & dehumanize, we must raise our voices

I refuse to let my children grow up in a MAGA occupied America.
Freedom is leaving the doctor not worried how it will be covered, it's life without active shooter drills, it's freedom of and FROM religion, it's life without snitching on one's neighbors, it's free speech without retaliation

Freedom is the generational work of cooperation (government) & stable institutions. Freedom is not ONLY personal liberties/limited government. It's creative and communal. MAGA seeks to dismantle that cooperation- that freedom. The US can only be free by de-occupying our culture of MAGA.
