While our evac was full of unexpected twists & turns during the first hours of the Eaton Fire, I at least was prioritized, cared for & supported to safety. I can understand the fear, aloneness & desperation the two in wheelchairs in Altadena left waiting for medical transport. Something must change

My SIL came home first, and immediately had me work on getting dressed, her mind juggling the dog, personal effects, fear and then all of ME, that meant medical equipment and support to move. Even then I didn’t know how close the fire was. DH came home next which solved several challenges 3/4

I had no idea of anything other than a purposeful outage for safety - have lived in CA long enough to know the drill. But this was the first time in this region & with my newly disabled state. I recall trying to access web sites & send texts without success. It did, frankly, leave me unsettled 2/3

I was alone in the house when the power went out. Deep blackness except for the screen light of my IPad. The blinds and windows closed all day against the powerful Santa Ana winds and we had loads of practice with my ability for self-care despite being bed and wheelchair bound 1/3
