Graphic that says: SBWU ULP Strike day 12, and we're just getting started
It's DAY 12 of our national, open-ended ULP strike.
Thousands of baristas in over 65 cities are on strike demanding higher wages, better hours, and an end to union-busting. And we're just getting started 🔥

Trans And Non-Binary Workers Are Worse Off Than Cis Peers
They face inferior socioeconomic outcomes, including higher poverty rates and lower wages
Trans rights are workers rights.
If our labour activism does not explicitly and intentionally include gender diverse workers, then we need to do better. No workers left behind — period.

Though shy of where we’d like to be, this is a huge step for organized labour.
Imperialism is anti-worker.
When bombs drop, workers die.
We have a long way to go, but we will never stop fighting.

That EBM should not represent our diverse membership when he clearly shows so much contempt for so many of us.
He is proof positive that not only does anti-Palestinian racism exist within OPSEU, but it is open and tolerated — while those who call it out are silenced.
This is not okay.

As plotting to rebuild so they can “attack & eliminate all Jews” is a disgusting, incredibly dangerous mischaracterization that places those same members (who are also actively appealing for the recognition and eradication of anti-Palestinian racism within our union) at risk for further harm 3/

EBMs hold so much power & when we fail to hold them to the same standards as the rest we tell our rank and file that some members matter more than others, that we will not protect them or prioritize their safety.
Referring to Palestinian members & their allies calling for a ceasefire… 2/

I’ve never been so ashamed of my union or its leadership — to punish observers w/o the right to speak by removing them from a meeting for silently protesting harmful & racist remarks of an EBM (in violation of the statement of respect) going unchecked is utterly feckless.

Today, Kat Abughazaleh, congressional candidate for Illinois’ Ninth District, is lending support to Northwestern University’s dining hall workers in their picket.
However, her focus on this protest appears to prioritize left-wing rhetoric over practical solutions for Illinois families. In 2025, Illinois will face the nation’s highest tax burden, and no contract or symbolic action will change the harsh economic realities families are already grappling with.
The rumors are true: I did, in fact, picket with Northwestern’s dining hall workers.
Jokes aside, economic security for the working class with always start with unions. You could say they’re the most practical solution.

Oh yeah? Cool I'm expecting price controls for food, housing and transportation, regulation of the telecoms companies, clean water on all reserves, protection of workers' right to strike... oh no sorry he just means he's gonna make it more expensive to buy products from the US

Folks make bad choices every day, not just when voting — it just means we need to get up each day & choose solidarity. Keep your head up. Get involved in your community, organize & keep fighting for workers, healthcare, education & public services.
Voting won’t save us, so we have to.

graphic. it's a classic NY Mag "approval matrix" doctored by the NY Mag union. It reads "Don't be lowbrow despicable. Stand with the 'New York' Union by refusing to cross the digital picket line."
I'm sorry if you can't see it and need the alt text bc it really is a delight and i am struggling to do it justice. but just know that it is.
it's always up the workers around here, but even if it wasn't, @nymagunion.bsky.social's pro-labor approval matrix would be more than enough to get me to pledge not to cross the digital picket line if @nymag.com forces them to strike for a fair contract. you should too: nymagunion.org/reader-pledge

Per that same friend: In 1978 Justin’s daddy did the same thing The union stayed on strike “illegally” CUPW leader Jean-Claude Parrot was thrown in jail. Through their militancy, postal workers have protected all working people, winning and thus normalizing rights like parental leave.

My friend recently said it’s funny how capitalism is lauded as a ‘free market’ economy where sellers set prices which buyers can choose to pay or not - but when workers try to set the price for their labour, the government intervenes to tell them what the price will be

This is a discriminatory ban based on flawed research in a blatant attempt to pander to bigoted idiots enacted by feckless politicians that will have dire consequences *exclusively* for trans kids. UK

I will make the effort to not drag things here from The Bad Place, but there were a few gems that I won’t let just disappear. Like that time @kimsiever.bsky.social obliterated my political identity with a single tweet. Good times.

The Federal Government Has Crushed Another Pair Of Strikes
What is a Charter-protected right to strike worth if it still allows governments to act this way?
“In yet another infringement on workers’ right to strike, the Trudeau government ended work stoppages at ports in British Columbia and Quebec last week by imposing binding arbitration on the unions involved.” www.readthemaple.com/the-federal-...

Quit blaming the postal strike on workers who are standing up for safe jobs and fair wages. Union jobs set the standard for all work places & you have CUPW to thank for parental leave - so if you want the strike to end quickly, get your ass out to your local line and show some solidarity 💪
