A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

A full rainbow with a hint of a secondary bow. A drystone wall in the foreground and distant hills.
I don't think I've ever been wetter than on today's walk round Walla Crag. In recompense, nature laid on a superb rainbow.

I'll go to the Lake District and sketch around Lake Coniston, I thought to myself.

The view from the top of Wansfell Pike. Very misty and grey with a lone figure on the foreground looking out over the scene.
Not much of a traditional view from the top of Wansfell Pike today, but look closely and you'll see a symphony of subtle greys, gradually shading into white. The question is: can I make an interesting painting out of it? #lakedistrict #art

My constituents want me to focus on cost-of-living, jobs, NHS services, tackling crime & providing opportunities for young people.
They're not interested in who is comms director in No 10 or PM's chief of staff.
That's why we need to focus on the country & not look inwards.
PM has my support.

We elected Starmer for five years not two. Anyone who thinks some other candidate will magically fix our problems hasn't been concentrating for the past 15 years.

Hiking Quote of the Day
“I'm losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news.”

'Sunrise in the Lake District.' (1915)
An intriguing picture by James Hamilton Hay. The only painting of his that I can recall combining the influence of Caspar David Friedrich with a love for Japanese printmaking.

Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Audio)
YouTube video by Bruce Springsteen
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

A coastal scene with the horizon 1/3 of the way up the square canvas. In the lower 2/3 there is a coastal cliff edge with sea visible beyond.
Starting today wit a Fred Cumming painting.

Actually it is what was said but the original adds "if gender is unclear". A minor point that seems important in this day and age.

This quote worried me from the article "advising writers to refer to [... subjects...] as a ‘person’ or ‘people’ to avoid assigning gender" annoyed me but it's not actually what the person quoted by the writer said. Naughty. Read the original here: www.nga.gov/visit/access...

Nearly finished this painting of a tree lines lane near Ambleside. It was near twilight and the lane was darkening.

A pair of tall elm trees in winter in a Victorian photo.
Much missed. I just about remember the dutch elm disease from the 1970s. Much to my amazement I saw some big elms at Stanley Park in Blackpool in the early 2000s. Even those are gone I think.

A painting of a lane. With autumn trees lining the road. It's an unfinished work in progress.
I always seem to be painting one season behind. It’s winter, yet I’m still absorbed in autumn’s colours. Maybe I just need a whole season to digest all the visual riches it offers.

While I'm not quite at the point of losing my house, the harm ai has done to my animation work income is huge, like 80% gone and it makes me wonder how many freelance artists and animators ARE losing everything while billionaire con men continue to rake it in.

A painting of Loughrigg Tarn in the English Lake District. The tarn reflects the distant Langdale fells.
Added the finishing touches to this Lake District landscape tonight. Next week I'm posting it to it's new owner.

The Guardian view on art and health: the masterpiece can cure the body as well as the soul | Editorial
Editorial: From a Van Gogh self-portrait to Gauguin’s dreamscapes, new studies show that seeing original art can calm stress and boost health
”going to art galleries is good for you – relieving stress and cutting heart disease risk, as well as boosting the immune system.”
Of course! I reckon it's the mindfulness that looking at great art instills.
I should be really healthy...😁
