Tbf Seb Payne is a particular outlier I think

I'm probably going to be unpopular for this, but at this point, with this government, pursuing a conversion therapy ban in the UK is not worthwhile and could even be irresponsible. There is no way it will have sufficient teeth and could even make things worse for trans people, particularly under 18s

I'm honestly at the point that when they do come for these people, if I'm still able, I'll point them out. A net negative for society in the main. Almost certainly the same people who drive at 40mph in a 60 zone then continue at 40 in a 30 zone.

There's a lot to enjoy in this article but here's my favourite bit. Zero self awareness. They admit to having spent the last 6 years doing exactly this to the rights of people they don't like & are now upset someone is doing it to them. Their pleas sound a lot like those of the people they ignored

My take is that the real aim here is intersex women and FIFA are a bit warier about that because there are almost definitely top level players who would be banned by an IOC style policy. "Trans ban" is media code for a ban on a variety of non-trans women too.

And a few years ago I'd have been saying the same as you as well!

Zero doubt in my mind that FIFA would do that if that's what they're asked to do.

They only do anything about that when it is African countries

Feels like this framing being how most of the media leads on this could be part of the problem here

I've managed alright despite that I think

You can be both, but its far from a 1:1 correlation. People often seem to be better with words because they don't take good pictures or are less good looking. This is why I had 18k followers on Twitter and have 1200 on Instagram

I haven't said this for a while so saying it again. Threads is bad because it just copied followers from Instagram. People follow people on Instagram because they take nice pictures or are good looking - neither qualifies people to be interesting in text form, so it is inherently boring.

I sent this to my wife, who is a vet, and she said that the cake might give the horse colic and that it might be as bad as fire cake

Americans on car social media will genuinely have you believe that driving a manual is the cognitive equivalent to quantum theory

The cowardice of sporting bodies and news organisations in dealing with this topic is particularly apparent in the way that none of them will even acknowledge the impact on women with innate variations in their sex characteristics unless they're absolutely forced to

Cool, you start

They're not even actually arguing with it. It'll say whatever you want it to say.

I've just seen an absolutely cursed development from the people who brought you "People who think activism is arguing with people on social media". This one is "Arguing with LLMs". Genuinely - there are people who think they're doing a service arguing with AI in private

Human rights experts raise concerns over Olympics transgender women athlete ban Over 100 human rights, sports and scientific groups have criticised the new gender eligibility guidelines as ‘a blunt and discriminatory response’

The Guardian (Australia) notes today that the new IOC rules fly in the face both of international law, including international human rights law, and the scientific evidence on sexed bodies.

Realised I've been saying in talks that "I came out 10 or so years ago" for about 3 or 4 years now and that I should probably update that phrase in my head

Today the IOC published its new policy establishing genetic testing as a requirement for competing in the female category in a policy driven by politics not scientific evidence, marking a new era of controlling and policing women’s bodies. “Safeguarding” has becoming a fucking magic word for reactionaries in this country. A means of imposing their agenda, including through censorship.

This is another great example of why the BBCs beloved 'biological males' language is misleading because most people reading that will not think it covers cisgender women, but the way they were using it, it does

Once again the IOC is banning cisgender women and the media is pretending that the ban is to transgender women (who it also covers) because they're running cover for ideologues.

From Instagram - today the Dyke Project shut down NHS England HQ to protest the politically motivated ban on trans youth healthcare.
