Got mine a wedge pillow and it really helps.

As a St. Andrews grad, I observe that St. A's is great for both of these and has cool MA programs in these areas to boot. But if Oxbridge only, one might look at the library resources at each to see if there are primary sources by specific authors/artists that could skew the balance either way?

I have similar troubles with Lidl; my UK Google account can get the UK Lidl app and several European ones in the Play store, but refuses to let me download the US app; the US app is available if I switch to my US account but none of the other Lidl countries are. This isn't exclusively a BBC problem.

I think the BBC: World app is only available to non-UK *accounts.* On an android, that would be the country of the Google account associated with the Google Play store. I have 2 Google accounts on my phone, and that app is available to me (currently in England) on the US one but not the UK one.

Or Schwarber's Schwarma?

Definitely understand! I would still recommend looking at the Folger ones. I believe the short-terms can now be done virtually, on-site, or in a combination of the two--but the remote fellows still get Zoom calls and other community events.

Agree--this is a great time to be applying for library fellowships, and a few of those would give you community and structure (e.g. library opening hours, fellows' events, etc.). Some, including the Folger, offer a mix of on-site and remote time.

I love "How to Write a Sentence" by Stanley Fish, though it's a whole (albeit short) book.

If the cafes offer gift certificates, could you start suggesting those to friends and family members who want to give you gifts for birthdays/holidays/milestones? Not as great as a grant, obviously.

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful sweet cat.

I saw a meme the other day that critiqued society's willingness to watch ridiculous short form TikToks even as many are completely disinterested in highly celebrated substantial long films (can't figure out how to link it). Students' hesitation might be less about the media than the length.

Sometimes I marvel that I ever survived without a standing desk! I should try an ergonomic keyboard sometime too! Good luck with your back/neck/shoulder pain. It's awful what computers do to our bodies.

I'm sorry all the things hurt! Just a note that my back, neck, and shoulders have become a lot more manageable since I started using
a standing desk, and also that monitor risers are wonderful things.

I wonder where the scientists will store their personal beakers?

Important to evaluate whether you are the gentle kind of scholar activist or the defacing exhibits kind of scholar activist!

I've not tried with a tripod/selfie stick, but I have taken all manner of odd things into the BL (including full suitcases). They consistently ask me about "sharp things" and alcohol. I imagine that there are enough tourists coming through that they would recognize a tripod/selfie stick.

Always a good day when one gets to translate Latin doggerel. :) Thanks for sharing!

e.g.: This boat and also house; lo! The savings (parsimony/efficiency) of our lives!
In it [this house] the clever Arab lives, in it he plows the sea.
He covers himself with it on land, he seeks food with it in the waves.
The house itself carries its master and he himself the house.

I'm distracted by the "hac" getting translated several different ways ("in this way" and "like" l. 2, and "with this" --twice" l. 3). As it's doggerel, and not knowing the context, I want all of them to be "in this [implied boat/house]."

If you're interested in harness recommendations, I have tried 4 different kinds for ours and have Strong Feelings.

Your slides are so much prettier than mine! Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I came here to say this, with specific respect to the same two instances Peter cites: US South (which starts in Maryland/VA) and really quite a lot of international students.

Literally what I wonder every time I leave the house with a suitcase!

I am sitting in an airport on my way to LHR for (eventually) SRS as I read this. So terribly sorry to be missing you this year, but have a splendid time at ANSZA!

Also the Beinecke.

I'm partial to Sayers & Pinsky. But the first question is which elements of Dante you might need for your study: just the story, meter, rhyme, cognate language, etc. If reading for joy, I recommend reading the same canto in as many translations as you can find, back to back, & picking your favorite.
