I picked up a book of Beatles chords for guitar, and the introduction listed this song as a a Lennon masterpiece.

The song itself and the atmosphere during the recording of it was so tense, Engineer Geoff Emerick quit.

Jennifer Horgan: We have set a new standard for what angry men can achieve. It's terrifying Angry men's blockades stopped my mother being with her dying brother-in-law last week. She was not the only vulnerable person whose needs were trampled on

Just imagine how Trump would have handled the secret backchannel to China in 1971:

"WOW, Henry the BRAINS, great guy, JUST came back from PAKistan -good people- and SAYS that the GREAT Helmsman (must have a HUGE BOAT) Mao might want to MEET!! Let's HOPE he does or it is ALL OVER FOR CHINATOWN!!"

TRUMP, throwing insults at Pope Leo:
“weak on crime”
“terrible for foreign policy”
“catering to the Radical Left”
“owes his position to me”
“sit down and mind your own business”

POPE LEO, unbothered:
“We are called to love.”

Wonder will the Pope ever be tempted to excommunicate him? I mean he’s preaching a false Gospel…

JD Vance is on a historic roll:

He campaigns for AfD in Germany - they lose.

Invited the Pope to come to US for Trump’s big event - Pope refuses.

Leads peace negotiations with Iran - fails miserably.

Campaigns in Hungary for Orbán - who gets smoked.

Did Viktor Orban say thank you to Vance?

Giving a Pope who's apparently seen & enjoyed Sean Connery in The Untouchables more temptation to cleanse the temple would appear to be.. unwise

If you’ve witnessed the growth of online extremism in Ireland over the past few years, then the constant minimisation of the threat of the far-right (by the authorities and some of the commentariat) has been akin to watching a disaster happen in slow motion.

Sorry, what now?

You want the carbon tax abolished and VAT and excise cut, but it transpires that you don’t actually pay your taxes.

Right so.

Learning today that its middle class to use a ~€500 bicycle but working class to own multiple ~€20'000 hauliers

The only way to durably protect hauliers - and the economy - against fossil fuel shocks is to support them to electrify trucks.

Sales of electric trucks in China outsold diesel trucks last December.

So far this year, only one electric HVG was newly registered in Ireland.

Carbon taxes are used to fund new Electrical infrastructure to help get us away from Fossil Fuels. If our current infrastructure didn’t need oil this wouldn’t be a problem at all.

I agree that government should cut duty, but that means they’ll have to find the cash elsewhere to fund services etc.

Yep this is the way.

China doesn’t have the issue of Oil companies and Petrostates spewing their propaganda everywhere so they’re way ahead on this front.

It isn’t peaceful if you are disrupting travel and everyday business.

Bugger off home and let those of us who want to make a living, instead of blaming others all the time, get on with our lives.

Staying within the law.

Preventing business and daily life isn’t acceptable or lawful behaviour and this sets a dangerous precedent in our society, leaving us open to what is essentially Mob Rule.

Laws are being broken, and just because you agree with the point being made this time doesn’t make their form of protest acceptable.

Unfortunately a bunch of right wing goons are leading protests in Ireland against rising fuel prices.

Had they an electric car? No problem.

🚫🇷🇺 Hungarian protesters chanted “Russians go home!” (Ruszkik haza) at Viktor Orbán during a campaign rally, hours after we revealed his foreign minister conspired behind allies' back and even shared EU documents with Sergey Lavrov. The chant echoes the main slogan of the 1956 uprising.

The ides that people can be fact checked into virtue and that Fake News is the main culprit for the rightward turn is an illusion.
A lot of people seek out Fake News precisely because is confirms their worst prejudices. Its veracity doesn't matter to them. they just want something they can quote.
