A chart that's loosely put on a Y axis of "meaningfully impacts the game" and a x-avis of "do the refs always call a penalty". This is gonna be hard to explain. I'm gonna do my best. Or else someone will get mad at me for not doing alt text properly. First and foremost we've got Marc Kennedy the Canadian curler at the very bottom (does not impact the game meaningfully) and about a 3/10 on the scale of "do the refs care". Other penalties in other sports somewhere on the scatter chart include: - NFL linemen holding (high meaningful/not called) - NBA traveling (medium meaningful/not called) - MLB toeing the line an inch out of the batter's box (not meaningful/no one cares) - MLB pitchers doctoring balls (meaningful and medium called) - Boxing clutching and grabbing to delay (medium/medium right in the middle) - NFL snapping the ball at 0.0 on the play clock (not meaningful but gets called around half the time) -NFL headhunting to injure (HIGH meaningful HIGH refs always call it) - track and field false starts (medium meaningful but always called automatically) - NHL puck over glass delay of game (not meaningful but called every time)
Here's where I rank the "Marc Kennedy doing a little tippy-tappy a centimeter over the the hog line" big curling rules story in the grand scheme of sports infractions on a scale of "Does it meaningfully impact the game" vs. "Do the officials consistently always call a penalty"
