When she was 3 my daughter inexplicably said several words in a thick Boston accent. We couldn't figure it out until we realised it was the result of her mashing together Australian and Irish pronunciations. Even now we can hear the Oz in places.
My daughter is watching clips from Bluey episodes in Korean and it says a lot about how much we've watched this show that I can recognise the individual moments by sound design alone while understanding none of the dialogue.
When I started this project, I thought there were nine Pitfall games. I was wrong.
A history of the surprising number of Pitfall games, the people who made them, and the company that kept deciding what the world really wanted was a new Pitfall game.

Constantly reminded of this Ted Chiang passage on capitalism, technology and progress from the New Yorker whenever I see the tech “elite” snowflaking about criticism.

Stefan meme saying "The Whistler films have got everything: spooky shadows, 60 minute runtime, an ominous narrator framing device, Richard Dix..."
Current mood is completely obsessed with The Whistler movies from the 1940s. Perfect entries in film noir.
Well, well, well… look what just arrived. For the first time in ages we didn’t get screwed by customs and got our hands on the new issue before all you lot. So join me as I unbox it and see if I’ve made any terrible, terrible mistakes when laying it out & sending it to print

Hanwha doing really well tonight after a brutal weekend series, but with our bullpen this season you cant count on that. We can always fuck it up in just one late inning.
Fryx are also pretty open bigots as well. They've expressed anti-LGBTQ and xenophobic opinions in the past. Many reasons not to support them.

Post a gif from your favourite movie from the year you turned 18.
Pretty good year in film actually, but for whatever reason I love this movie. I'm a sucker for a good legal thriller/people talking in rooms movie.

You know, Agincourt is an interesting battle.
The archaeology says it can't have happened where the sources very clearly say it did, and I haven't seen anyone who can reconcile the two. Either the selected site doesn't fit our best eyewitness source, or the archaeology refutes it.
Here's a scan of the Bullwinkle and Rocky Roleplaying Party Game rulebook. Sorry it's not OCR. drive.google.com/file/d/11p2u...
A creature that is human from the waste up and somewhat like a lizard from the waste down is standing at the top right of the left-hand page in a manuscript. He is wearing blue and firing an arrow from a bow at a similar creature at the top left of the right-hand (i.e. the opposing) page of the manuscript.

Two creatures firing arrows at each other on opposing pages/folios in a late 13th-century Belgian Psalter.

I enjoyed this way more than I expected I would. It shows its age in places, and I wish it explored Mosby the person a little more, but it's surprisingly clever.
I preordered it on a Korean crowdfunding website. Not sure if it will be released generally, Silvergun's stuff seems to go out of stock in a blink.
He has a Naver store, with luck it will crop up there in a bit. Fulfilment only happening now.

The box for the game Swing&Roll sitting on my desk between my mouse and keyboard.
The components of Swing&Roll: a deck of cards, rulebooks (Korean, Japanese, and English), a board representing a baseball diamond, some dice, some wooden baseball player meeples, chits to track score, some reference cards, and the box.
I don't usually post game acquisitions on media, because sometimes I think it feeds into an overly consumer/capitalist view of games.
But! I just got my copy of a new baseball game by Korean designer Silvergun and I'm too excited about my weird niche hobbynobject to not share it.
Sounds rad! I really wanted to go but there is a plague sweeping through the students and I've been sick since Wednesday :(

John Flanagan has passed away.
For those of you who don't know who he was, he was a children's author who wrote the very successful "Ranger's Apprentice" series and it's spin-offs, "Brotherband" and "Royal Ranger".
He wrote 29 books in these series, plus another 3 for adults, over 20 years.

Silvia Federici is one hundred percent wrong about the witch trials (not even a weak argument: her work is based on utter fantasy) and Caliban and the Witch has done incalculable damage to the discourse around this topic, especially in left-wing circles.
This game is an underrated gem and I had a blast talking about it. We couldn't contain ourselves and rambled on for a little longer than usual, but I think it's got some good stuff in it.
We've also already finished playing the next game in the series, so next episode should hopefully be soonish.
