Norway’s new research minister has signalled that the government will axe a controversial law that requires PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from other countries to undertake mandatory Norwegian language training

BYD redesigned their Blade batteries to lower the cell’s internal resistance and therefore allow for:
• 1MW charging power
• Adding 400km of range for 5min of charging
For comparison, Tesla Supercharger V4 will aim for 1.2MW, as announced back in November.

This really captures the big difference of an industry in full swing and a nascent one. While Chinese cell makers every year introduce higher C rates, lower cost, higher specific energy etc, all backed up with clear data, European cell makers remains at ”we will soon make cells”.

Germany's #EV registrations rose by 53.5% in January 2025, reaching 34,498 vehicles % a 16.6% market share. Plug-in hybrids increased 23.1%, while petrol & diesel cars declined. Tesla led but saw reduced sales, with MG & Polestar growing. The overall market contracted 2.8%. Will 2025 be resurgent?
Happy new year!
We welcome 2025 with a couple of new publications from the group. In the paper published in J. Mater. Chem. A, the effect of Zn and Ti substitution in P3-phase Na-ion battery cathodes has been investigated

Proud to have contributed to this paper "The evolution of lithium-ion battery recycling" led by Yan Wang's group at WPI that appears in the first issue of Nature Clean Energy Reviews. www.nature.com/articles/s44... The group brought together a really great range of perspectives.
Lord Toby Young has posted a rehashing of the "CO2 is saturated" meme. It sounds plausible, and some eminent scientists believed it back in history. But we've known for 100 years that the atmosphere isn't saturated with CO2
And one very simple observation shows it beyond doubt.
My second 🔓editorial for @naturenano.bsky.social is out. This time, I talk about something I care a lot: Why do battery researchers not use a shared basic electrochemistry terminology?

What's your experience? 🙂

I have an opening for a postdoctoral scholar to develop design rules for fast charging battery materials. The focus will be on operando X-ray characterization to understand disorder using spectroscopy and diffraction. Description + application instructions: careers.slac.stanford.edu/sites/defaul...

That CATL eavaluates recycling options in Europe is logical given its strong position in EU auto industry.
Still this article should scare any investor looking at battery recycling in 🇪🇺.
Because 🇨🇳 is coming?
No, because they are not already here.

Agree. Of the EU-homegrown battery factory initiatives, Northvolt has had the best conditions to grow and succeed. They have made mistakes of course, but have laid bare just how hard it is to grow this industry when Asia (esp. China) is already so dominant

Uhhh, so we get to have the bot influx down here as well?
Battery Research people and those involved in the Battery Community.
Trying to do my bit as everyone joins the X-odus and migrates to Blue Sky by curating #BattChat people. go.bsky.app/GKsPnAB
