Cambridgeshire County Council has to spend more each year on statutory duties & services like social care, education, SEND and Home to School Transport. This equalled 75% of the 25/26 council budget. That means all other areas including roads, waste & libraries have to be funded from the remainder.

It’s been a busy day for Cambridgeshire County Council as we published our finalised proposal for Local Government Reorganisation, “Two Councils, One Fairer Future” prior to submission to Government tomorrow.
I’m exceptionally grateful to my team for their work to get us to this important point.
Earlier today, a majority of Cambridgeshire County Council elected members approved a decision to take forward a proposal for Local Government Reorganisation which would see the 7 current authorities replaced by 2 unitary councils, one for the “North” and one for the “South” see more 👇🏻
So grateful to our brilliant Policy and Finance teams at Cambridgeshire County Council for producing a report to Council for 21/10, to enable Councillors to consider submitting an Option to Government for Local Government Reorganisation across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Having to post this message was not something Cambridgeshire County Council should have had to do. However, when our staff are contractors are threatened, intimidated and, in some cases physically attacked, we have no choice.

You’ll find more comprehensive views will be shared about CCC as part of the 3rd annual quality of life survey we’ve undertaken with a sample of size of more than 5,500 residents.
And the issue of “blacklisting” will undoubtedly draw views from trade unions and other representative bodies. They will also be subject to testing at Tribunal and in the Courts, I imagine.
Having been involved in these discussions with the PSA years ago, it’s good to see some progress. However, professional regulation requirements require standards which are applicable to all. That’s a challenge when there are multiple professional bodies involved.
