Like, it’s actually kinda apt, just not at all in the way they intended?

COME WORK WITH US: once again, we're hiring! Haystack Observatory needs technicians and an HVAC mechanic. Is this you? or someone you know? Please see:
www.haystack.mit.edu/about/careers/
for details! You won't find a cooler place to work—thanks to our future HVAC mechanic in particular 🧊 😁
Maybe this is one of the reasons people are turning to gravel - more equal, less paternalistic. UCI is doing their best to change that, though. Anyway, this has been my Sunday cycling rant. *puts away soap box until the next major race*
Real curious what the conversation was like when they decided to exclude the most famous/infamous cobbled sector from the women’s race. Real uterus-might-fall-out vibes?? Why are women’s races capped in terms of distance? I know the argument about more exciting racing…but would apply to men too?
The way women’s cycling is treated as an afterthought *at best* by organizers and broadcasters…I really love cycling but boy is it a slap in the face every time. #ParisRoubaixFemme
If you’ve been moved & inspired by Artemis, NASA needs your help. Literally during A2, the president proposed cutting NASA science 47%, canceling 54 missions, including many already in-flight. To help stop these cuts, check out @planetarysociety.bsky.social www.planetary.org/save-nasa-sc...
Hello, I made you a feed of your cats watching the Artemis II splashdown bsky.app/profile/did:...
Space stuff is cool.
We should do somewhat less war stuff and somewhat more space stuff.
Artemis II is $4bn per launch, roughly the cost of 2-4 days of War in Iran.
What if we did not do War in Iran, but instead did cool space stuff?
The AAS Policy team has published a detailed breakdown of the proposed FY27 budgets for NASA, NSF, and DOE. aas.org/posts/news/2...
Take action now by asking your Senators to sign letters in support of NSF and NASA Science:

The FY 2027 NASA budget request hides its science cuts by omitting mission names instead of explicitly zeroing them out.
We did the work and found 54 missions cancelled in this proposal.
This is another extinction-level event for NASA science.
Full list: planetary.org/save-nasa-science
Trying to hide these cancelations shows that the administration knows how unpopular this is - with Congress and with the public - but they're still trying to cut NASA in half while the crew of Artemis hasn't even returned to Earth.
Devastated to report that interacting with other humans actually *is* good for my mental health. ☹️
A new laser system aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft is sending sharper video and more data back to Earth
For added perspective, Trump’s devastating cuts to US science equate to something like just 3 weeks of military spending due to war he started. (Seems like $1B a day or so is what’s been estimated for the war). So sure. Gut US science for a couple extra weeks of war…
I hate this. I’m so tired
I love this cool new thing we all get to do where each year we face devastating science cuts and then wait to see if Congress will restore NASA's proposed budget somewhat! Really great!
For those of you who love space exploration: we have robots exploring all across the solar system, and they can’t make anybody any money, they just discover cool stuff, so billionaires aren’t interested. Rovers and orbiters at Mars, orbiter at Jupiter, missions on the way to distant asteroids…
Some people cry at weddings; I cry at rocket launches.
Honestly, I have a lot of ambivalent-at-best feelings about the current direction of human space flight…but damn if big rocket go vroom doesn’t get me every time.
We’re giving gravity the finger, y’all! The best kind of human arrogance.
I had a raccoon do this to my cat twice at two different *second floor* windows. Poor kitty tried to launch her 5 pound self through the window to defend her turf from an animal at least 2x her size.
I got one of these for Oliver. He’s scared but intrigued when it’s on, but does attack it after I turn it off. 4/10

We’ve been overdue for an updated landing animation…
We got one for Titan discovery day!

Email your senators to urge them not to confirm Jim O’Neill as Director of the National Science Foundation.
He's not a scientist, has no relevant expertise, promoted vaccine misinformation, and he helped gut the CDC. Email your senators here! : tr.ee/NoToONeill

If you want to beat them, figure out how to organize a bloc of economic actors whose material interests are served by the transition. Organize a bloc with *more power* and then *defeat* them. That's how this works. You're not going to fucking seduce them with your clever verbiage!
A fiery death in the atmosphere is all well and good, but I really wish it was easier to throw spacecraft into the sun. Now that would be a send off!
This is a perpetual mood

When some amazing rescuers scooped this fluffy, friendly cat up from a Baltimore alley yesterday, they thought she was just really pregnant. But it soon became clear that something was very, very wrong… 1/6
I think it really is similar to climate and pollution. It’s good to give people agency and encourage them to change their habits for cleaner alternatives, but it’s just not honest to pretend that 1) that will solve the problem and 2) that’s where most of the responsibility lies.
