An experienced dev will tell you that AI can produce a mix of impressive & wildly bad results, and that it takes care and knowledge to get good results out.
So often, students only see/hear about AI as the magic coding god in the cloud, and that is SO risky

Farage thugs manhandle man with pacemaker after he objects to the Reform leader's chauffeur parking in disabled bay that he needs to use.

The danger to my job from AI isn't that AI can do my job, it's that my job is made even more precarious by the way AI is shaping ideas of the value of work. It can't do my job, but it can be part of convincing people (incorrectly) that my job isn't necessary.
Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
Thank you for clarifying. *Crosses off Sceaux Gardens of bucket list, and takes in the rest of the long list*
So preferably without the mist. Worth a detour to that part of London, if one were keen on architecture?
FT comments section this morning - saying what everyone else is thinking, right?
Survivors of trafficking are regularly subjected to immigration detention and retraumatised.
Amid a legal aid crisis that's even worse in detention, they are trapped, with no way of getting desperately needed advice and support.
I don't know about the architectural delights of Sceaux Gardens, but it disappearing in the mist might have its charms too...
A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, it’s not a publishing problem, it’s a men problem.
MPs’ basic salary to rise to £110,000 by end of parliament, watchdog says.
This should be accompanied by a total ban on second jobs, which in most cases is a corporate bribe. Must end all conflict of interests.
Being a MP is a full time job. MPs must act exclusively as MPs.
Want to gently push back on this. If a book is kindle exclusive than it's basically non-existent to libraries for purchase. It's bad enough that libraries use Amazon Zip Books. (Also, trad pub authors have no control over where a book ends up, and IA is a copyright minefield for books.)
The @heythroplib.bsky.social stopped using X/Twitter in March 2025. But we did not delete it. If X would ever revert back to being an acceptable platform or social media tool then one could go back to it, keeping the X handle, etc.

Rare books at Campion Hall – fifth report
This is the fifth post in a series for our blog. It shares the reports written by Alison Felstead, Rare Books Cataloguer at Campion Hall, who has since April 2024 done sterling work on creating detailed records for those Heythrop Library rare books which…
Easy for Farage to complain about people wanting a work-life balance when he’s a millionaire that doesn’t do any meaningful work. Imagine being so thick that you vote for reform.
I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
Hideous licensing agreement from Red Ogre Review, but what really jumps out at me is the moral rights waiver
Not a great look that so many university libraries are promoting AI. Libraries have always been a space for valuing authors' work and showing how to locate and properly cite sources--not encouraging tech that steals from authors and produces slop.

“Very deep poverty is defined as less than 40% of the UK poverty threshold after rent. The average income of a household in very deep poverty is 59% below the poverty line. For a couple with two young children this amounts to £16,400 or below.”
I see the “Man of the People” has been devoting all his time as MP to his constituents in Clacton….Of course he’s not in the pocket of far right billionaires who think that because they are rich they should get even more of the cake

Time to dump ChatGPT!
The latest model of ChatGPT has begun to cite Elon Musk’s Grokipedia as a source on a wide range of queries, including on Iranian conglomerates and Holocaust deniers, raising concerns about misinformation on the platform.
