What can destroy a neighborhood is when people stand up in a public forum and assert that some folks are just not welcome here. Imagine being a longtime renter, hoping to move to a great neighborhood like Neponset, and reading this article.
Posts by Dorchester Growing Together
Councilor Fitzgerald says he thinks the renters who might live in this building won’t care about the neighborhood or put down roots. He’s wrong. How else can you explain the strong communities and neighborhood ties that exist throughout Dorchester, where more than 60% of all housing units are rented
Neighborhoods can’t be killed by new buildings. New buildings are how our neighborhoods grow and evolve and welcome more people who want to be a part of what makes them great.
There are some pretty disturbing quotes in this story that are reflective of the zero-sum, us-versus-them attitude that underpins NIMBYism. New neighbors can’t destroy a neighborhood: they’re what make a neighborhood.
If you’ll be at this Sunday’s Open Streets event on Dot Ave, come by and say hello! Even better, bring a friend!
Just a reminder: this event is a week from today.
This meeting coincides with the City’s release of its Anti-Displacement Action Plan. Check it out! www.boston.gov/departments/...
As part of the Fields Corner Squares + Streets planning process, the Boston Planning Department is holding an anti-displacement workshop on August 13 from 6 to 8PM in the community room at 25 Ditson Street. You can register at this link docs.google.com/forms/d/1uWi...
Our goal is to reduce the timeline for projects like this from years to months, and create more options for property owners to build a wide variety of housing types so all of our neighbors have an affordable place to live.
A nice article about our friends Elisa and Vivian Girard, who are wrapping up a naturally affordable 14-unit building outside Fields Corner.

A great project is being proposed in Fields Corner, celebrating Dorchester’s history and making room for more neighbors.
The Roslindale Squares + Streets zoning was thoughtfully done and is a great outcome. We’ll be there making sure there are similar great outcomes in Codman Square and Fields Corner. Check our Pinned Post to join the DotGrow mailing list if you’d like to be involved.
Our statewide partner @abundanthousingma.org commissioned this poll that adds further empirical support to what we’ve long suspected: the loudest voices against housing production are the definition of a vocal minority. Let’s get building! www.bostonglobe.com/2025/05/16/b...

Good. Build more. With less parking.
"Nowhere in the country have rents declined as much as they have in Austin — now 22% off the peak reached in August 2023, according to Redfin. The median asking rent is $1,399 per month, down $400 in less than three years"

#CambMA City Council just voted 8-1 to end single family zoning, allowing up to 4-stories of #housing by right citywide!
Thank you @burhanazeem.bsky.social, @marcgov.bsky.social, @councillorsiddiqui.bsky.social, @votejivan.bsky.social, Mayor Simmons, Clr Wilson, Clr Toner & Clr Nolan!
This was a comprehensive reform that also simplified our zoning.
By that I mean no step backs, no dwelling unit per lot area, no FAR, no special permits (under 75k sqft), no parking mins…
While other reforms have limited it to 4-8 units, we’re really trying to build housing!
Rather than go smaller, we decided to go bigger in a way that would result in thousands of both market rate units and affordable units.
Our high affordability requirements only penciled at 6 stories and that was our baseline.
Cambridge leading the way! Six stories as of right throughout every neighborhood!!! (More to come for TOD corridors soon!) Boston should follow this example as soon as possible! 👏👏👏
