“Due South Thompson” sounds like the name of an old blues singer but I don’t want to give her that positive association

neighborhood mutual aid effort, or end the night’s activity by having everyone make mass calls to electeds or ICE-enabling businesses (eg: one event had all 100+ people leave voicemails for Enterprise, which was — is? — renting cars out to the agency here in Mpls)
One thing I love about the Minneapolis singing resistance groups is that they tend to go a bit above and beyond what could easily lapse into performative (pun acknowledged but not intended) activism — for example, many local singing resistance activities will ask for each attendee to donate to a
I don’t want to be sycophantic or parasocial but I feel like I’ve found a friend here. Finally someone who understands.
Cannot believe I missed round 1, but you better believe I’m all in seeing this through to the end from this point forward
Minnesota's antifascist DNA stretches back to the Civil War, if not earlier. But if you want to learn about the heroes who fought Nazis here a generation ago you can watch this.
The newest video shows very clearly that they attacked him for coming to an aid of a woman that the agents pushed, and then executed him while he was immobilized. Everything the government has said, like with Good, has been a complete lie.
I know some people are cynical about everything now and just say “eh, what do you expect” at every new low, but really this is just astonishing and outrageous, and I don’t think we should shrug at that www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
Screenshot of a phone lock screen with a temperature readout of -15 degrees Fahrenheit. Below the temperature, a label saying “Extreme Cold Warning” appears, but it cuts off so it simply reads “Extreme Cold War…”
Okay, rude
I know it’s cold; you don’t *also* have to remind me it’s ICEy out.
The problem with “we don’t fight culture war stuff” is that when the right turns *everything* into culture war stuff, then you don’t have to fight anything at all.
The bridge, especially when the organ *really* kicks in.

One of the MOST significant things about this — and an important lesson to highlight, not obscure, for national/international readers — is how widespread local opposition is. I’ve never seen more normal folks involved. The overwhelming broad consensus local support lifts me up when I let it.

I just hate it

“Really, you f*ckin’ punk? That’s why we’re here… Renee Good is a mother.”

I don’t share NYT much anymore but this is a perfect example of how to maintain standards of objective reporting while not kowtowing to the official narrative (because the objective facts clearly contradict it).
In the past 7 months, the Twin Cities have seen the assassination of State Rep Melissa Hortman & her husband and the attempted murder of State Sen John Hoffman and his wife, the mass shooting of children at Annunciation Church, and now the murder of an innocent women by an ICE agent. It hurts.
easy there, partner — looks like you were about to fedpost. the future we need can’t come to pass if the good people building it are in the hoosegow. leave them ornery thoughts in the holster
**warning upsetting violence**
but i have to share after the DHS statement on what took place.
this was cold-blooded murder by ICE on a neighborhood street. none of them in danger, none of them harmed. driver killed after three shots through the windshield.
all i have in me is rage right now.
Sexx Laws, Hell Yes, Pay No Mind (Snoozer)
Basically, if it’s a less-remembered single from the first half of his career, it’s probably very specifically My Jam™️
it also has the connective thread of not just music, but the whole concept of “DIY” and “Independent” artistic ethos, which could be really helpful.
The limitations are that it’s a bit outdated (early ‘00s) and pretty white/male-centric. But otherwise a solid resource!
Our Band Could Be Your Life is a great book to show both direct history and trickle-down influence — it’s a collection of short (20-40 page) histories of underground bands that largely starts with ‘80s hardcore and proceeds to the alternative and and indie scenes that took influence from them. And
Did they get rid of the setting where you can toggle between the two? I know when we had a Disney+ subscription that was an option.
Your last saved meme is your moral philosophy
(Honestly, pretty accurate)
Setting aside competition shows (Top Chef, Iron Chef) and food culture shows (Anthony Bourdain’s ouvre, etc), it’s gotta be Good Eats. Both for information value and entertainment value, it’s always been in my Q Zone
It was pretty brilliant above our house in South Minneapolis about 10 minutes ago — you might not have missed it all!
It gave us the great Disco Elysium Vance video:
Progressives did a good job defending some (potentially) hard council races and did great at picking up park board seats.
Obviously lots of sadness around the Mayoral, but overall “Not as good as we hoped, not as bad as we feared” seems to be the prevailing interpretation.
Park Board much further left, but still with a contingent of cranks
City Council slightly more moderate (no longer a veto-proof progressive majority), but still largely progressive.
Mayor obviously stays as-is.
I have a lot of personal stake in some losses (Ward 5/7), but on the balance,
