Guardian headline about Congress passing 10-day extension of FISA. Meanwhile Mike Johnson is slipping quietly away with his hand tucked inside his suit jacket pocket, as if he's just received a bribe.

Why does every photo of Mike Johnson look like this.

‘He’d gaze at the stars and go: I’m gonna be up there one day’: Prince by those who knew him best, 10 years after his death From lurid pranks and late-night drives, to why playing in the Revolution was like joining the marines – Prince’s friends and collaborators recount their memories of one of the music world’s most maje...

Love this tribute, but my fav thing is George Clinton talking about Prince wanting him to come by late at night and tell stories about the people he'd met, and Prince saying: "I never met nobody." Then Prince ends up being the guy everyone else cherishes meeting.

This seems totally right. I don't think they misjudged the reaction, I think they wanted to gauge it. Most of his crazier posts are trial balloons.

A "finish your look with" collage of stuff. The high-top beige shoes are fine. The bracelet (I think it's a bracelet) is maybe fine, whatever. But there's also some pretty awful clutch-type thing and then some kind of loafer that may be snakeskin, I don't know. It all just says "you have enough money to be stupid, why not be even stupider?"

The "What a stupid time to be alive" comic. It's nice. A woman standing by a window looking at a cityscape, arms crossed, lost in thought, saying "What a stupid time to be alive." What nobody talks about is that there are what appear to be faux shutters lining the window *on the inside.* It's distracting but only if you think about it.

Two side-by-side op-ed video links from the NYT, with these headlines: "Trump Says Opening the Strait of Hormuz 'Should Be Easy'. Will it?" and "Did Jesus Rise From the Dead?"

Two side-by-side op-ed video links from the NYT, with these headlines: "Trump Says Opening the Strait of Hormuz 'Should Be Easy'. Will it?" and "Did Jesus Rise From the Dead?"

The answer to every headline is always no.

Where I disagree with Kruse (who is generally right on this) is the idea that real writers don’t see it as a chore. It’s hard because it’s a chore, it’s tedious, but it’s not a chore you can farm out to someone else. It’s doing the chore that opens the door to what’s cool and beautiful about it.

I’ve had so many days where I wrote nothing. So many days where I wrote junk that I threw away. And I’ve had so many ideas I loved and couldn’t quite turn them into gold. AI isn’t a shortcut, it’s just giving up on the gold.

Many of us hate writing except for the 1% of time when it clicks and it’s the best thing ever. But the 99% of time that it’s brutal wouldn’t get better with AI, it would just make the 1% disappear.

Same is true of other touristy-seeming sites like for the French Open, where you *can* explore in English but you should not. Ticketing pages especially are minefields.
