Amazing result for one of our age disputed yp. After 9 months of casework, whilst in an hotel, finally had the decision overturned and returned back into care. It shouldn't have taken so long, and wouldn't have been necessary if the first assessment was reasonable and thorough.

For a teenager who had an amputation as a result of cancer, we worked closely with them on finding them immigration advice, housing, adaptation and welfare advocacy and supporting them back into college.
For another child with a rare brain tumour seeking asylum in the UK, we provided welfare advocacy to secure safe and suitable housing post chemotherapy, regular visiting, grant applications, and family support.
For one child with a cancer diagnosis, we supported their mother to come to the uk, as mum was living abroad, so she could be with her child through her cancer treatment. Working also in partnership with @praxisprojects.bsky.social
This year in the one referral stream we have;
- given 39 practitioner advices
- opened 18 cases
- visited children in hospital
- visited them in the community.
- secured specialist immigration advice for 16 families / young people. With ECF for 7.
- housing advocacy for 14
It’s #smallcharityweek! This week is about impact.

A big thanks to Vodafone! 🧡 These sims are a lifeline for children we work with, so they can stay connected with their caseworkers and other people, but most importantly, to promote family connections and relationships.
🧡🧡 Thank you Vodafone! ❤️❤️
These sim cards provide a lifeline for the children and young people we work with. Enabling children and young people to stay connected for six months with data, calls and texts. Vital for staying connected and building relationships.
And another age dispute success these last few days, following a negative short assessment. An agreement to take into care in the interim pending a full age assessment!

The Bibby Stockholm was dangerous and cruel, keeping people who came to the UK for safety isolated in prison-like conditions.
It should never have been opened in the first place. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/gove...

Today we delivered training to midwives and health visitors in Berkshire on working with families with NRPF / where there might be immigration worries. How to spot, identify and get further support and specialist advice.
Life in temporary accommodation (2) when you get lost in the system and nobody takes responsibility
news.sky.com/story/where-...
To put this in perspective, at the last count there were 86,810 children homeless and growing up in temporary accommodation in London
Was a pleasure today to go to the regional london meet for young lives vs cancer to talk about improving practice and advice for children with a cancer diagnosis in NRPF households. We have had a referring partnership with them for a little while now.
The Home Office wants to pay charities like ours millions of pounds to help them remove migrants from our communities.
We refuse to be complicit in a hostile system that tears our communities apart.
Read the open letter we've co-signed with dozens of UK refugee charities
This is so important - the space for positive, humane policies is created by positive, humane rhetoric. Posing with your most determined expression for the benefit of the far right simply legitimises their concerns & ratchets up the pointless cruelty, until we get to Rwanda, or worse >
