Extra inning and emotional distress in game two of the season. Philadelphia Phillies are back, folks!

“11 sperm whales huddled together at the surface, strangely still and taking occasional shallow dives. After about an hour, the animals seemed to start thrashing, and a plume of blood reddened the water. The researchers feared trouble, maybe a shark attack. But it was something else.”
WHALE DOULAS!
WELL THAT IS ONE WAY TO OPEN BASEBALL SEASON
It's staggering! I'm in awe of them
These sports are STAGGERING and TERRIFYING, my word
During the Olympics my social media was flooded with content and jokes about how all the events are just death-defying feats on ice and like...I REALLY hope you're all appreciating that the Paralympics are the same thing but on one leg or in a chair on one ski controlled with your abs and arms
Bursting back onto Bluesky like the Kool-Aid man to remind you that THE PARALYMPIC OPENING CEREMONIES ARE TODAY
It would be impossible for me to overstate the degree of excitement in the roller derby community for Erin Jackson, Olympic champion speedskater and roller derby star
Yeah these outfits RULE
VERY MAJOR Olympic fashion update: Haiti takes the gold
I AM willing to concede that the first time they did the revenge thing, in Goldeneye, it's really REALLY good, so I suppose they're always chasing that high. But you can't keep going back to that well over and over it's so boring.
I have significant evidence to support my broad assertions btw but you can also simply trust that I'm right because I am!
I'm barely on this platform and not on Twitter at all anymore but evidently one thing you cannot stop me from posting is threads no one asked for about James Bond because it's the one thing I feel bad bothering irl friends with.
It's so interesting and so frustrating that from Goldeneye on they've so often decided villains need some additional driving motivation besides just like, making a a whole bunch of money because they super love making money? That's what Bond villainy is all about, man.
Obviously I am now watching all the Bonds that feature skiing, in preparation for the Olympics. Elektra King is so close to greatness: obsessed with her money, deeply megalomaniacal, so turned on by torturing and killing people. But wanting revenge on M is so tiresome.
The purest motive for a James Bond villain is profit. All other options are inferior. Sadistic delight enhances and elevates a profit motive. Revenge cheapens it.
That I don't know! It looks like it. I really like that one on the sweatshirt. I'm also into the fact of the gender-neutral cozy skirts but feel like they could be ANYTHING but a photo of an eagle lol
I kinda like the black on black but not so much the black on red? My friend also acknowledged that "the maple leaf is hard to make stylish" though I think the puffer coats pull that off!
A white sweatshirt featuring an embroidered eagle
A long skirt featuring a...photo of a soaring bald eagle? Also a matching fleece
WAIT wait wait ok so US athletes also get a Nike haul (we are doing too much) and it's mostly just puffer jackets and this one cool embroidered eagle (left) and then also, well...
Team Canada hockey jersey in red with a black maple leaf
More team Canada hockey jerseys
Addendum because I complimented Canada's outfits: my Canadian pals are nor especially enamored of these black maple leaf jerseys and they're not wrong...
This has been: your unsolicited pre-Olympics fashion roundup, brought to you by personal guilt over spamming my group chats too much with this already
Skims for Team USA post featuring extremely boring and plain loungewear that just says "Team USA" with flags
More boring skims Team USA pjs
Even more pjs even more boring
However, in fairness, the US athletes also got a bunch of stuff from Skims that is literally the dumbest lowest effort thing I've ever seen. Based on athlete haul videos there's like twice what you can see here and it's all just...this
US Olympians in their Polo Ralph Lauren Olympic outfits
An excellent Ralph Lauren fair isle sweater with an American flag for the Olympic team
Finally on this one topic I am forced to quietly chant USA! USA! Ralph Lauren, who should never be allowed to force summer Olympians into polo shirts ever again, knocked it out of the park for the winter.
British Olympic sweaters with a Union Jack motif running down the middle
Great Britain fell victim to (chose) the Adidas route so most of their stuff is an admittedly nice blue shade of the same apparel half a dozen other countries have. But check out these sweaters!
French Olympic apparel featuring a snowboard with the cool mountain tie dye pattern
French Olympic outfits, some of which are cool and some of which have regrettable collars
France is saddled with these BIZARRE zip collar things on a lot of their shirts but they also have this tricolore tie dye mountain motif that is very very cool
Finland's Olympic parkas
Finland's Olympic sweaters
Finland has this extremely rad digital ombre thing going on
Team Canada's Olympics looks
More Team Canada apparel
To stop being negative for a sec, some ARE great. Canada has some cool burgundy patterns going on and I like the maple leaf puffer jacket thing and the red and white flecked sweater
Moncler winter jacket for Team Brazil
Moncler ski racing suit for Team Brazil
Some of Brazil's gear is also Moncler which is fancy and less hideous than the Adidas stuff but it's still...solid white parkas. (The racing suits are admittedly cool)
A FarmRio Instagram photo of a model in bright, colorful skiwear in a tropical motif
Screenshot from a video of Brazil's boring Olympic apparel, showing black pants with a muted green jacket underneath
Closeup of the Brazil Olympic apparel from Time Brasil's Instagram showing the dark teal color that's used for most of it
Imagine being Brazil with a homegrown company that makes skiwear like this and instead Adidas makes you clothes identical to every other country in this dark teal that's nowhere near your flag's colors
The Bring It On choreographer who sold the same routine to every team
I have convinced Instagram to show me almost exclusively Olympic athlete official apparel haul videos and y'all WHAT are 90% of these countries doing. Adidas did like half of them and fully pulled a
