Autumn garden! #lifeinnewton
We’re now at a point in American history when a so-called Republican regime in Washington is extending its control far beyond the wildest dreams of the most left-wing of Democrats — or even socialists.
We are living in an age of bullies. Those with power are less constrained today than they have ever been in my lifetime.
The question is: how do we lead moral lives in this era? www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/jul/2...

NEW YORK (AP) — Stephen Colbert tells studio audience CBS is canceling 'The Late Show,' to end in May 2026.
This is the monument the Irish people built for them.
It's in Cork.
Trump is, to quote 19th C novelist George Meredith, “drifting into vanities, congregating in absurdities, planning shortsightedly, plotting dementedly.”
'The Book of Doors' is an enjoyable bit of fantasy fiction. Magical books with a little bit of romance thrown in. The premise is clever, and the various plots come together beautifully at the end. Really enjoyed it.

Rand Paul on Fox Biz: "I do think the jet probably sends the wrong signal, and I don't like the look or appearance of it, so I would hope he would reject it. The Constitution specifically says you can't take gifts from foreign leaders."

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago:
—Pioneering cancer researcher;
—*Arrested* at airport in Boston;
—Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana;
—"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research.
Read it.

Pope Francis was by far the best most consequential pope in my lifetime, at least since John XXIII whom I barely remember. Francis was knowledgeable about science, cared about the planet, and was concerned more about people than dogma. We will miss his clear urgent gentle and compassionate voice.
Nothing but shells, sea, and blue sky!
Marathon Day in Newton!
A hundred years from now…
Our houses will be considered heritage sites, and our grandkids will come to visit…
They’ll look around and say, “What’s this weird dangling wire?”
“Oh dear… It’s a charger… for the ancient phones of our ancestors??!!”
Oh, the shame…
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

LOL -- White House econ adviser Kevin Hassett admits on Fox News Sunday that on tariffs "I can't give you any forward-looking guidance on what's gonna happen this week. The president has got a heck of a lot of analysis before him, and he's gonna make the right choice I'm sure."
