I feel like something is wrong when you enjoy a game more with the graphics on low because it eliminates the visual clutter.

The algorithm is not in artists favor.. If you see this, can you help an indie developer & artist with their first game by sharing this post with others? 🫂

So, yes it's more work, and yes it's more expensive. But you're able to make deliberate choices you don't get to make when you buy H&M, you bypass the machine of human (and animal) exploitation, and, in the end, get the superior product.

I think there might actually be a point there. People make homemade bread and, e. g. (in my case knit) their own clothes, yes, out of love for the craft, but also because you‘ve a lot more control in terms of making choices about what you want to eat/wear, AND the quality of the end product.

To all the artists of all kinds out there feeling imposter syndrome right now, you're a real artist.

At least you didn't use fucking AI. You're making art with your hands and brain and that is commendable no matter what.

I‘m currently starting a new job and, man, impostor syndrome is hitting hard. So I feel you. I guess it makes sense to get into a dialogue with that inner critic and try to find out why they‘re saying what they‘re saying. See through the words and get to the purpose, if you know what I mean.

I have to say, of all the clever things I have done in making this game, the most useful has possibly been having it take screenshots every time an action occurs for when I go back to debug an issue.

It is so nice having a chain of screenshots to look at in addition to the stack trace and logs.

I just learned the genre is called metroidbrania. Good thing I‘m still years away from finishing the thing.

We can now open and close doors! Can‘t enter yet, but I choose to take the win.

Are we even capable of separating the concept of mother from the societal expectations towards mothers? I think unconventional parent characters that lie at the intersection have the potential to raise a lot more interesting questions.

But then, all the work I don‘t have to do in terms of development, I have to make up for in design. Probably more.

Like, no items, no upgrades, not focused on battle. Great development relief.

A knowledge-gated metroidvania is equal parts perfect for a newbie game developer and a terrible idea.

Blood & Flames (demo) by Blackblooms Crush, burn and slice through your enemies, and keep your family safe, at all cost.

Welp, its still got a bunch of flaws, but i think the demo for #blood&flames is ready to be played. It should be about 30min to 1 hour.

Don't hesitate to talk about your experience.

Now come publicly support the AFD again here in Germany, JD! Countries *love* it when the US interferes in their elections.

Noob question: If you‘d care to share, I‘d be super curious about your process. Like, do you cut out the content that doesn‘t go in the demo/do you leave it in but make it inaccessible?

The secrets to good Pixel Art animation! (Animation tutorial)
The secrets to good Pixel Art animation! (Animation tutorial) YouTube video by Pixel Overload

Out of all the pixel art videos I‘ve seen this is by far the best one in terms of genuine advice that isn’t „here‘s how you pixel a tree in exactly this style that I‘m showing you right now!“

I’m still using the timer so the effect wears off if you try it on a non-dropdown platform, so you don’t just drop through the next one you walk onto.

Then again, I could check directly. I’ll think a little more about this.

I’ve revised the drop through platforms.

I’ve previously been using a timer, which worked but seems like bad practice to handle the drop-and-collision-reset.

Now I’m checking the position in relation to the dropdown point to reset the collision mask.

It‘s the international and mandatory sign of a work in progress.

In regards to a post going around I must say this:

Creators of all kinds should ALWAYS be sharing and re-sharing their works and the works of those they enjoy. Regardless of if there IS or IS NOT an algorithm on that platform.

And fans of stuff? Y'all need to learn to hit that repost button again.

Ah I see. Yes, the toast animation is good I think; I hate it when they disappear so quickly.

I like how the items bounce out of the chest. Have you considered making them pop out quicker? Like „dingdingding“ instead of „ding… ding… ding“.

I love how you can naturally go from Am into Caug and resolve right back into Am.

Correction: It's just Am. But you *can* play the major 7th as well.

Time for another update. She can sing! What for… that‘s my secret. But if you care, it‘s an AmMaj7 chord.

And, yes, I’m still figuring out how to record quality video directly from godot.

I love this. Been thinking about how to make in-game sound clues accessible.
