Kudos to them. This is probably what we should have tried with our startup NewsFixed about 10 years ago. We had the pieces in place, but I guess it wouldn't have worked anyway, the world wasn't ready for it back then! Let's hope it is now.
As another person who worked on the IPTC standard, I agree that alt text should be contextual if possible. But are you saying that multiple alt text fields would enable that? (FWIW we also have an Extended Description (Accessibility) field, even though that doesn’t solve this problem)
