Had to create an SOP, and Claude did the job much slower but 10X better than ChatGPT
"without the research infrastructure, the scientists, and the continuous funding that undergirds all of this, there are no miracles, no breakthroughs, no cures."

We have an Iranian friend in Tehran who has devoted his career to translating Thoreau for an Iranian readership. Starting with 'Walden,' through Thoreau's anti-slavery works and essays on civil disobedience, the lot.
We have not heard anything from him since the bombardment began.
I have a father and mother in law in Iran. I have a sister in law. A niece. She's 14. She likes silly pink headbands and purses and dresses, just like kids her age all over the world. There are 93 million people like her in Iran. People who do all the normal mundane life things as the rest of us.
Thanks. I guess the AI database they use doesn’t have the location of synagogues? Let’s hope they have that info now as there are some ancient beauties in urban areas all over Iran. Here is a picture of the Yusef Abad neighborhood synagogue in Tehran that so far has not been hit

"Israel’s military expressed regret...for damage caused to a synagogue in Tehran, claiming...“collateral damage” from a strike against a “senior military target”. Iranian media said the synagogue, serving the capital’s small Jewish population, had been destroyed." www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a...

It is likely that your local Quakers / American Friends Service Committee are having vigils this week.
Sometimes being together in silence in affirmation of nonviolence with others can be extraordinarily powerful yet restorative
Threatening genocide normalizes genocide.
Sharif University in Tehran was just bombed
Founded in 1965, it is one the most elite science and engineering institutions in the world. Alumni include the mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, first woman to win the Fields Medal

I hate having to do the "look, they're normal just like us" post, but sometimes you have to do that when American propaganda tries to convince everyone Iranians are "animals".
A quote card by Scott Galloway that says: "If you have an endowment over a billion dollars and you aren’t growing your freshman class size faster than the population, I think you should lose your tax-free status."
My thoughts on higher ed.
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

How do we know if research is credible? In Abatayo et al., 86 of us combined evidence across the SCORE program including replicability, reproducibility, robustness, human and machine assessments to understand relationships among many potential credibility measures. 1/

Curious how your experience with Claude compared to this ChatGPT blogpost.
The front page of the https://reporter.nih.gov website with funding curves of showing the number of awards and dollar amount by month.
Well, this is a surprise...
This is the landing page for NIH Reporter.
Those curves are new and look vaguely familiar...
I guess imitation is the greatest form of flattery (or NIH_leadership™ doesn't want reporters getting their data from a deranged activist).
Friends, any recommended readings on bot detection? Having some issues, would love to collect as many sources as possible on how to deal with this! TYIA #AcademicSky

Authors of quantitative work are required to openly share data & code.
No @asanews.bsky.social journal shares all these traits.
