Ominously for Starmer, there is no precedent for an Operation Save Big Dog resulting in anything other than the dog having to be put down.

Joking apart, it’s interesting Lammy and Cooper were more recently reshuffled into other jobs by the slippery Stamer: it’s as if he was trying to cover his tracks as best he could.
On Monday, can someone in government please introduce Starmer, Lammy and Cooper to each other because, reading the papers today, it would appear none of them have ever met or talked to each other. All they have is one friend in common — Mandelson.

This insults our intelligence and our intelligence community. Did neither Starmer nor Lammy bother to google ‘Epstein’ and ‘Mandelson’ ahead of the appointment? Most of it was already on there. Did no one in the intelligence community call them? Why all the lost WhatsApps and stolen phones?
Seeing how Trump destroyed America’s reputation, damaged the global economy and institutions and freedoms that bound us all together, I’d assumed he owed allegiance only to Putin and Netanyahu. Now, in his contempt for the Pope, I think his allegiance is to an even darker force.
Even the hard right rags would feel queasy about what the BBC is doing with its Let’s Put the Boot Into Immigrants Week, leading bulletins on its so-called investigations, and never thinking to ask if our involvement in catastrophic wars has played a part in creating this crisis.

No one now has any idea where this is going, least of all the joker who started it.
What constitutes news these days is finding stories — or the resources to fund an investigation — that will accord with an agenda.
