If you remember one AI disaster, make it this one
If you remember one AI disaster, make it this one YouTube video by AI In Context

Here's video for all to see concerning the current risks that AI presents. The base is the series of events surrounding xAI and the grok account on X. Kind of scary when I think of the possibilities. AI needs some sort of guardrails until a secure point is reached.

Re-reading Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism by Chögyam Trungpa, an excerpt:

But we were not satisfied and we thought, "Since this one object makes my room so beautiful, if I get more antiques, my room will be even more beautiful." So we began to collect, and the end result was chaos.

My life.

Somehow I ended up on a substack mailing list and I'm beginning to be thankful for it. The catchphrase on this one was "You are a puddle, music is rain”. When I looked further I discovered a delightful list of "25 Unconventional Meditation Prompts". Check it out,

I'm guessing belief is what got me past the 10.10.6 release of jellyfin. A sort of belief that something should work. For me it is story that had been sitting around for about 4 months. Finally had the energy to attack it, seems that jellyfin had changed their networking requirements.

I would think stargazing in VT would be a bit frustrating. Up here in Burlington the number of nights with clear skies is not as high as I would like when going on that road. However my attitude might be slightly colored by my years of stargazing in Texas in earlier years. You're very dedicated!!

Actually the tradition of an "hourly wage" is questionable. A person selling an hour of their time to someone else? If a person sold all of their time to someone else, would that not be slavery which is outlawed? Not sure though how to eliminate it, the Civil War just about tore the country apart.

I'm a bit old school and probably not all that helpful, but my guess is that you'd need to do some php (or perl) programming, ie server side skills. I'm also not helpful in an immediate sense since I haven't done any programming in a decade or two.

Wasn't too thrilled about face recognition validation, then when the picture taking procedure for the login creation could not actually handle my face, I said forget it. Not impressed nor wanting this feature anymore.

For those who delve into the linux world, I want to say that the Brave Search AI is pretty helpful. I found that it was a great time saver and more relevant than the AI in other search engines that I tried...uh, a non-comprehensive search of AI helpers.

Brooks and Capehart on what voters think about Trump's first 100 days YouTube video by PBS NewsHour

In defense of CPB and PBS, towards the end of the interview. Thoughtful and it actually would be great if people thoughtfully considered what they said...it feels that frequently people don't.

75 percent of North America’s bird species are in decline, study says Birds are rapidly vanishing from North America, with dramatic population losses in places that were once thought safe.

A "canary in the coal mine" situation but not enough people seem to care. The birdwatchers out there have certainly noticed, but they really don't have a place at the table.

Went to see Nickel Boys last night, one of the VTIFF features. It was very good, one of those movies that after viewing you say "I need to see that again", and then again after that viewing like a bouncing ball absorbing more of the movie after each bounce, never seemingly to get it all in.

For exiled Tibetans, U.S. funding was always about more than just aid U.S. funding has helped Tibetan refugees from China establish a thriving community in India. The future of that support is now in doubt after Trump’s aid cuts.

Sadness for one of the dominoes of stupidity.

Does sleeping on an idea work? Here’s what science says. Scientists are finding experimental evidence that the transition between wakefulness and sleep is a portal for creative thought.

I often get sleepy during my afternoon practice session at the keyboard, especially in combination with a pot of hot tea. Here apparently are some pluses that might occur in the nap that breaks up the session.

"The point of the roof bolt story was that, left to itself, the free market would fail to protect ordinary workers" -- The Canary by Michael Lewis in the Washington Post

Although I suspect the F*ck'em Party would prefer, and try, to bury this tidbit.
