But obviously my flying cat is the best one. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

And my kids legit thought it was magical, which is pretty on brand.

Seriously though, congrats on the new book. I can’t wait to dive in!

“All the Birds in the Sky” is one of my all-time favorite books, so I’ve been super excited about “Lessons in Magic and Disaster.”

And I’ve got to say @charliejane.bsky.social knows how to sign a book!

Can’t wait to read it.

@scalzi.com you absolutely nailed how every cis white dude trying to be an ally should think about this. No medals. No gold stars. Just show up, do the right thing, and be there for the people who need it.

Even more important when you have a platform and know how to use it.

My point is that I’m sick of my identity being used like I’m a pawn. Sick of being told how to feel about a nuanced issue by people who know none of the history. Sick of seeing other types of antisemitism now socially acceptable. Sick of the WSJ and others ignoring or downplaying attacks on Jews.

I appreciate the respectful tone, and agree antisemitism isn’t the same as anti-Zionism. But this isn’t about left or right, or the nuances of being Jewish and criticizing the Israeli government. It’s about erasure. My point is, someone lit a group of Jews on fire. And the WSJ buried the lede.

A photo of a Wall Street Journal article about a fire attack at a peaceful demonstration in Boulder, Colorado. The headline reads: “Possible Terror Attack Leaves Several Injured in Boulder, Colo.” The article describes people being burned—one a Holocaust survivor—at a Jewish vigil for hostages held by Hamas. The word antisemitism does not appear anywhere in the article.

@wsj.com someone went to a peaceful #runfortheirlives demonstration in #boulder, lit Jews on fire, and you don’t mention #antisemitism once? Not even when a holocaust survivor is hurt?

Funny how that word shows up for cheap political points, yet is conspicuously absent when Jews burn.

Do better.

Stacker Pentecost Deserved Better Pacific Rim’s Stacker Pentecost cancelled the apocalypse. But the script cancelled his agency.

Awesome meeting @chuckwendig.bsky.social yesterday! Loved hearing his take on how great characters are more important than a great story idea. I thought about that in my latest Speak Context piece about Pacific Rim - a great movie that owed its characters more. bit.ly/3Z0ZwxV

The #Trump administration claiming to fight #antisemitism is like the Klan claiming to fight racism.

“Never again” means #neveragain for everyone. Not just us.

If you’re a Jew defending human deportations in our name, read a history book. I’d recommend Germany and Eastern Europe, circa 1925–1945.

Pragmatic? People call when they’re desperate. The person on the other end needs to truly see them. The stakes are too high for anything less.

And hey, next time you just want to talk about data, maybe leave out the dismissive quotes and “statistics.” After all, people may get the wrong idea

Slap nuts—ha! That’s a good one. My kids are going to think it’s hilarious.

There’s military data because we have military records. But a government database of marginalized people? I shouldn’t have to tell you why that’s a terrible idea.

Something like this?

And yes, the irony that I used ChatGPT to make this isn’t lost on me.

This isn’t some neutral “parental rights” issue. It’s bigotry. Full stop.
Just because it’s wrapped in religion doesn’t make it less hateful.

@washingtonpost.com stop framing this like it’s reasonable. Not when one side is trying to erase the other.

Huh, are you mad about the data or the survival rate? I sure hope it’s the data, because otherwise you’d be arguing that LGBTQ kids shouldn’t be alive. But of course that’s not what you’re arguing, after all, you’re not a monster. Right?

When everyone cheats no one cheats sounds like some finance bro defending insider trading

Once again, the right went to the Supreme Court because their so- called #religiousliberty means they can’t handle their kids learning that gay people exist. But the left are the snowflakes 🙄

Our administration will stand for two things: Fighting antisemitism and stopping the Soros-funded, Hollywood-controlling, migration-orchestrating, well-poisoning, global banking cabal of rootless cosmopolitans from destroying our Christian way of life.

Unfortunately, yes. It is too much to ask (of our government anyway).

But @withthebann3d.bsky.social if people spend time at libraries they might be exposed to new ideas and perspectives. They might even become smarter or gain empathy for people who aren’t like them. And we can’t have that.

Drove by a #Southwest billboard in Chicago yesterday that said something like “other airlines charge bag fees. That’s cold.” They may want to, you know, pull that down.

I’m reasonably sure the Creel administration was both kinder and more competent than the second Trump administration…

The right literally can’t handle ideas that they don’t like…yet we’re the snowflakes 🙄

Fair enough. Maybe a more likely scenario: Republicans hear about it, insider trade the crap out of the company making it, prices go up, no one can afford it, so people find shady ways to get it. Not to…you know…write out the plot of Autonomous, but it’s feeling a lot more real these days.

Literally my entire Bluesky feed is about #eggs. I get it. But also…today Trump and Elon fired a shit ton of people at the FAA only to bring in a bunch of spacex engineers (totally not a conflict of interest or anything). Also a plane flipped over. Maybe we should talk about that instead?

Sometimes sci fi is too real, like the Octavia Butler passage that’s going around Bluesky.

I read this book where a drug made people addicted to work. I’ll bet theres at least one pharma exec out there who heard that idea and thought “the Republican Party would totally fund this!”

Those are the best kind of authors! Though as an indie musician I suppose I’m somewhat biased on indie being better, but I still stand behind it.

I hadn’t heard of this before but just picked up a digital copy from your site. Looking forward to reading it!

I listened to the audiobook. Some argue that doesn’t count as reading, but those people are wrong. And also, those people are missing out on the (as always) incredible narration by @wilwheaton.net, who is one of the best audiobook narrators out there.
