Last Wednesday at rusty! We cleaned up litter from the wildflower bed and check on the plants that survived the harsh winter, we also planted a few black eyed Susans that someone didn't want anyone to enrich the bed.

Last Saturday at rusty! Thanks to Michael for the help! We composted a bit less than 100 lbs of food scraps, and built a lid for our new bins!

Catching up with missed posts, Wednesday 25th, we cleaned up and organized the shed , doublesifted lots of compost to prepare more seedlings mix, and watered the seedlings downstairs! Thanks @zeppelin_nature for your help!!!!

and we processed food scraps, watered the beds, did some organizing of the area in front of the toolshed, filled in soil on one of the beds, then went inside to start some seeds, and paint a new sigh to make rusty more visible.
Saturday workday at rusty: a quiet morning emptying 3 toter full of mushrooms substrate and mixing with sawdust and shavings, followed by the first harvest of the spring from the greens that survived the winter,. In the afternoon, a new volunteer and @buildonbronx arrived and ...,
After the hand off to the @swma.nyc we went back ou to weed, plant, sift compoat, and mixed a new batch of soil mix, before finishing the day with a few seeds to keep it rolling.

Today at Rusty: what a beautiful , sunny day. We started as usual, processing food scraps, we then added some hardware cloth to the new bins, harvestes a few pounds of greens from the micro greens, and the seedligs that are just a little too advanced.
some tomatoes and pepper already germinated! Yay!
Today at rusty: checking on the compost, listeing to birds, and emptying 6 bins of browns into our btown's bin. With just me as no other volunteer came today.... i then went to take care or the seedlings, and finished the inventory of viable seeds (already tested)
and discard whats not viable, to prepare for the incoming spring and the seed order to come.
And the seedlings transfered in soil blocks the last few weeks got watered. I also started to take noyes of the seeds that habe not germinated duting the first 2 seed viability trials, next step will be updating the inventory of the seeds we have,
Today at rusty: after checking on the compost, wich temp is coming down from the thermophilic (heat making) phase, we went to the basement to make sure the seelings are in good shape, the microgreens seeded saturday are already poppoing up!

the day concluded in doing a firat trial of micromix seeding 5g into a tray, and 1 set of soil blocks with turnip and cabbage for the early spring.
Today at rusty: spent the forst 2 h shoveling a path through the snow to acess the toolshed and entrance, then filled a weelyybin with finished compost. Erika and Isaac joined in and we went inside to sift the finished compost, coconut coire, peat, to make a new batch of seedling mix,
Today at Rusty: we managed to process all the food scraps before the snow rolled in! We then moved inside to take care of the already sprouted seedings, making soil blocks, recording the number of germinated seeds, and transfering the fully germinated ones into the soil blocks.

We unloaded the brows, say dusy, and muahroom spawn kindly brough by @qbgcompost , we then moved out the last batch of compost from the big metal bin to the ageing bin, we even found 2 worms making the next generation!
Today we did some maintenance for the moquito fish, and observed the older seed trial, may wich show good or descent genrmination, and tood a quick lool at the new seed trial, where Aragula already germinates!!! In 2 days !!!
Monday and today at rustu:
Monday we had a workshop with some of western queens kids (and parents) learning the history of rusty, and learning by doing aerobic composting. We then tested over a dozen of sees packets for viability, to add the the one from late november.
Today at rusty!: we met a couple of new volinteers, and processed over 180 lbs of food scraps to make compost, we also dismateled a pallet to prepare for the new composting bins, that are uet to be finished!
It was a quiet day at Rusty, with only 2 of us in the morning. We procedded food sceaps, reviewd some projects, buill/repaired/improvised hoophouses, checked on the seed trial, and recovered some pallet wood.
